About this role
Location: India
Function: Engineering / Cloud Platform
Reports To: Sr. Director, Cloud Platform
Are you...
- Passionate about architecting data platforms that power large-scale cloud-native applications?
- Excited to define how data is modeled, connected, and shared across an entire portfolio of products, not just a single application?
- Interested in building the data and knowledge foundation for the industry's leading AI-native Product Intelligence Platform?
If so, we'd love to meet you.
Why Esko?
Esko, part of Veralto (NYSE: VLTO), is the global leader in packaging and product lifecycle solutions. More than 25,000 customers across 140+ countries rely on Esko to design, manage, manufacture, and deliver products found on store shelves every day. Packaging for 9 out of 10 major consumer brands is managed using Esko solutions. As we enter our next phase of growth, we're making significant investments in cloud, AI, and platform engineering to build the future of product innovation.
Our vision is to create the industry's leading AI-native Product Intelligence Platform. This modern, multi-tenant cloud platform unifies product, packaging, regulatory, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain data into a single intelligent ecosystem. By combining cloud-native architecture, intelligent automation, and AI-powered insights, we're helping global consumer goods, life sciences, and manufacturing companies innovate faster, improve compliance, reduce waste, and bring products to market with greater speed and confidence.
About the Role
As a Senior Data Architect , you will define the data foundation of Esko's next-generation cloud platform.
You will shape how data is modeled, stored, distributed, connected, governed, and accessed across cloud-native products and shared platform services. You will establish architecture across relational, NoSQL, graph, search, and other cloud-native data technologies while defining clear patterns for data ownership and domain boundaries.
A key part of the role will be developing Esko's semantic and knowledge architecture, connecting information across complex product domains and enabling data to be effectively used by applications, analytics, and AI-powered experiences.
You will work across Engineering, Product, Platform, AI, and domain teams to translate data architecture decisions into scalable and practical solutions.
What You Will Do
- Define data architecture and modeling patterns for a scalable, secure, multi-tenant cloud platform supporting multiple products and thousands of customers.
- Establish patterns for data ownership, domain boundaries, data access, consistency, distribution, lifecycle, and evolution across products and services.
- Define architecture across relational, NoSQL, graph, search, and distributed data technologies, selecting appropriate technologies and patterns based on application and domain requirements.
- Develop knowledge and semantic architecture, including knowledge graphs, ontologies, domain models, entity relationships, and semantic models that connect information across product domains.
- Define patterns for sharing data across services and products through APIs and events while maintaining clear ownership, security, tenant isolation, and appropriate consistency.
- Shape the data foundation for AI-enabled products and agents, enabling reliable access to trusted, contextual, and semantically connected information.
- Build critical platform capabilities. Spend up to 50% of your time hands-on, developing foundational components, critical software modules, prototypes, and reference implementations.
- Establish data architecture standards and guide technical decisions across product, platform, and AI engineering teams.
Required Experience
- 15+ years of experience designing and building enterprise software, SaaS products, data-intensive applications, or large-scale data platforms.
- Deep expertise in data architecture and data modeling, including domain modeling, schema design, data ownership, data access patterns, consistency, and lifecycle management.
- Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including technologies such as PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
- Experience designing graph-based architectures, knowledge graphs, semantic models, ontologies, or complex entity-relationship models.
- Strong understanding of distributed data systems, including partitioning, replication, consistency, availability, scalability, and failure scenarios.
- Experience designing data architectures for multi-tenant, cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Experience defining data contracts and data exchange patterns across APIs, events, and distributed services.
- Strong understanding of data security, authorization, tenant isolation, governance, and privacy.
- Strong technical leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence engineers, architects, product leaders, and domain experts.
Preferred Experience
- Experience designing data foundations supporting AI-enabled products, agents, intelligent search, or retrieval-based applications.
- Experience leading significant data architecture modernization or platform transformation initiatives.
- Experience with graph databases, vector databases, search technologies, embeddings, or semantic retrieval architectures.
- Experience with complex product/data domains, particularly consumer goods, life sciences, manufacturing, or other regulated industries
What Does Success Look Like
In this role, success means:
- Teams have clear and reusable patterns for modeling, storing, accessing, sharing, and evolving data across cloud-native applications.
- Data ownership and domain boundaries are clearly defined, reducing duplication and unnecessary coupling between products and services.
- Esko establishes a strong semantic and knowledge architecture that connects information across complex product domains.
- Cloud applications and AI-powered experiences can reliably access trusted, contextual, and well-structured data.
- Critical data architecture decisions are translated into practical implementations and reusable patterns, not just conceptual models.
- You become a trusted technical partner who can move effectively between data architecture, technology, and business strategy.
