Function

The Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the maintenance team to ensure the efficient operation, repair, and upkeep of facilities, equipment, and systems. This role includes hands-on maintenance work, scheduling and assigning tasks, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and company policies.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Lead, train, and support a team of maintenance technicians and workers.
- Assign and oversee daily maintenance tasks, preventive maintenance schedules, and emergency repairs.
- Monitor team performance and ensure quality standards and deadlines are met.
- Diagnose issues with machinery, equipment, or systems and assist in complex repairs.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g. production, engineering, facilities) to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and equipment performance.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Order and manage spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Report regularly to the Technical Operations Manager on team performance, maintenance status, and resource needs.
- Actively communicating and reinforcing the organisation’s safety policy to frontline staff. Leading by example in following safety procedures and practices. Encouraging staff to raise reports safety concerns without fear of reprisal. Facilitate hazard identification and reporting by team members.
- Monitoring daily operations to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures. Identifying unsafe acts or conditions and taking immediate corrective action. Ensuring staff are competent, trained, and fit for duty.
- Conducting or participating in local risk assessments. Escalating hazards or risks that cannot be controlled at the supervisory level to management.
- Reporting safety incidents, near misses, and deficiencies. Implementing corrective or preventive actions as assigned. Follow up to confirm that actions are effective.
- Providing feedback from staff to management on safety concerns. Reinforcing safe work practices and recognising positive safety behaviour.
- Monitoring staff performance against safety objectives. Ensure that operational changes are communicated and understood by staff. Supporting audits, inspections, and safety performance reviews.

Person Specification

- Strong knowledge of electrical & mechanical systems.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is a plus.
- Flexibility to work outside regular hours in case of emergencies.
