Job Description
This role will report to and work closely with the Senior Financial Accountant of the Shareholder Finance team in Wealth Life as well as various stakeholders of the shareholder team including the policyholder accounting team, investments team, tax team and enablement teams.
This role combines both operational and reporting responsibilities while also managing governance and compliance at an operational level. This position is individually accountable for achieving results through self and others.
Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:
- Ensuring the timeous and accurate delivery of key financial reporting, management reporting and regulatory reporting deadlines which include but are not limited to Oracle, HFM, regulatory and KPI reporting.
- Prepares management reporting and provides commentary on financial results and implications (financial reporting and management reporting).
- Demonstrates commitment to implementing new technologies and automation of reporting and processes.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement, constructively challenge existing processes and ways of working and propose practical solutions to improve efficiency, quality and control.
- Ensuring and developing a strong internal control environment through maintenance and continuous improvement of the controls process. This includes the preparation and review of reconciliations and all other types of controls.
- Generating BAU and ad hoc internal management reports for key stakeholders
- Participating in internal and external audit cycles
- Participates in the preparation the business plan and assists in communication with the business on key areas of delivery and change.
- Prepares detailed analysis against the business plan to provide insight into the entity’s performance.
- Prepare tax (ABU) calculations and analyse movements in tax funds.
- Continuous evaluation of finance processes and driving process optimisation within the team
- Providing guidance, support and oversight to junior team members, where applicable, to support accurate and timely reporting and effective operational delivery.
- Working together with key stakeholders across the business in achieve financial/actuarial/management reporting, financial control, and project objectives.
- Providing input into ad hoc projects, directly within the business or the broader segment finance team
- Monitoring, analysis and reporting of cash using forecasts and analysis
- Preparation of statutory submission.
- Ability to investigate, analyse and communicate outcome of this work for the resolving of errors.
Qualifications and Experience required:
- Chartered Accountant (2-5 years relevant post article experience)
- Previous financial services experience
- Previous experience with IFRS 9 and IFRS 17 advantageous.
- HFM experience is desirable.
- Strong Excel skills with an aptitude and eagerness to learn various IT applications and platforms to enable process efficiencies. PowerBi (or similar tools) experience preferred.
- Experience using Oracle
- Experience in product accounting advantageous
- Familiarity with Five Fund Tax calculations
- Proactive, data-driven approach with strong problem-solving skills.
