As a Senior IT Server & Cloud Computing Engineer at Smithfield Foods, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the company’s hybrid cloud and server infrastructure. You will lead the implementation of innovative solutions that drive reliability, scalability, and performance across enterprise systems. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional IT teams and vendors to manage company-wide deployments, establish and enforce standards, and optimize operations through automation and proactive monitoring. You will help shape the infrastructure strategy, strengthen system governance, and ensure seamless integration of technology that supports Smithfield’s business objectives.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:

- Technical Leadership & Implementation: Provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise on implementation teams deploying new systems and operational processes that align with strategic business initiatives and approved projects.
- Planning & Risk Management: Assist in developing detailed implementation and contingency plans to ensure successful system deployment, minimal business disruption, and effective disaster recovery preparedness.
- System Performance & Optimization: Continuously improve system performance through proactive tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact business operations.
- Server & Cloud Administration: Deliver advanced server administration and operational support for both on-premise and cloud environments, ensuring high availability, reliability, and security across all systems.
- System Analysis & Evaluation: Analyze and evaluate existing or proposed infrastructure systems and solutions to identify opportunities for optimization, standardization, and modernization.
- Vendor Collaboration & Operations Excellence: Partner with external service providers to achieve operational excellence, optimize vendor performance, and ensure alignment with Smithfield’s technology and business goals.
- Technology Research & Innovation: Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging enterprise technologies, infrastructure upgrades, and process improvements that drive innovation and scalability.
- Infrastructure Strategy & Governance: Contribute to the strategy, management, and governance of IT operations by designing infrastructure solutions that meet current and future business requirements while integrating seamlessly with existing systems.
- Problem Solving & Trend Analysis: Identify patterns and potential risks through root-cause analysis and data-driven insights, implementing solutions that enhance long-term system performance and reliability.
- Capacity & Performance Planning: Forecast capacity and performance requirements for both organic growth and new projects, communicating insights to I&O leadership for effective financial and resource planning.
- Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Mentor and train team members to strengthen group capabilities, providing education on new compute services, infrastructure tools, and best practices.
- Documentation & Standardization: Create, maintain, and continuously improve documentation for compute services, system designs, and engineering standards to ensure consistency, knowledge retention, and operational readiness.
WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:

- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
- Technical Expertise: Established technical knowledge of hands-on experience in Windows and/or Linux server administration (Red Hat Linux a plus).
- Infrastructure & Platform Knowledge: Proven expertise in hyperconverged solutions, Active Directory, ADFS, SCCM, VMware, Cisco UCS, Veeam, and Red Hat Satellite Server.
- Cloud & Automation Proficiency: Experience supporting multi-cloud enterprise environments with a strong understanding of Azure and AWS capabilities, service cost structures, and orchestration tools for process automation.
- Systems & Operations Insight: In-depth understanding of infrastructure systems, hardware, and software operations, including the principles and techniques of installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Adaptability & Continuous Learning: Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to evolving technologies, acquire new skills, and apply innovative solutions to dynamic business environments.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Self-motivated and analytical professional with excellent problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying root causes, anticipating risks, and implementing timely resolutions.
- Business & Technical Alignment: Skilled in analyzing, translating, and defining business requirements into effective technical solutions that meet organizational goals.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent organizational, technical, and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The expected pay range for this position is $105,000 - $140,000 annually.


Smithfield Foods provides pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the company reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of hire. Individual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, location of the position, the candidate’s qualifications and experience, internal equity, external market pay for comparable positions and budget considerations.
