As a Paralegal at Smithfield Foods, you will provide essential support to the Law Department by researching legal issues, drafting and analyzing legal documents, and preparing and revising discovery responses. You will also help administer systems and processes that track and manage litigation matters, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. This role is critical in enabling Smithfield’s attorneys to deliver timely, effective, and business-focused legal solutions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

- Litigation Support: Work with company lawyers on varied litigation matters, including labor and employment, contracts, regulatory issues, products liability, torts, intellectual property, and insurance.
- Process & Systems Management: Implement and maintain tools and processes that improve Law Department efficiency, including docketing, legal holds, subpoena tracking, and records retention policies.
- Vendor Oversight: Manage vendors providing technical services to Smithfield lawyers, such as outside law firm billing systems and service of process providers.
- Law Firm Liaison: Coordinate with outside law firms on administrative and operational matters.

WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:

- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 2+ years of relevant legal experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
- Communication & Confidentiality: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish trust and maintain confidentiality.
- Project & Task Management: Proven ability to manage complex assignments in a fast-paced work environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required; experience with Serengeti or other legal software is a plus.
- Collaboration & Service: Customer service mindset with demonstrated success partnering across teams in a dynamic, results-oriented environment.
- Teamwork & Culture Fit: Respectful, approachable, and team-oriented, with the ability to build strong working relationships and contribute to a positive work environment.

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

- Paralegal education or certification and previous paralegal experience preferred.
- General understanding of basic state and federal laws preferred.
- General understanding of contracts preferred.


The expected pay range for this position is $60,000 - $87,500 annually.


Smithfield Foods provides pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the company reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of hire. Individual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, location of the position, the candidate’s qualifications and experience, internal equity, external market pay for comparable positions and budget considerations.
