Supervising Senior Producer, Digital

New York Public Radio is looking for an organized, creative and collaborative Supervising Senior Producer, Digital to help expand and execute New York Public Radio’s video strategy as part of the Digital News and Audience team.

The ideal candidate is a passionate news leader with a nuanced grasp of how audiences consume multimedia journalism across digital platforms, including social media, video, newsletters and search. They are particularly knowledgeable about how to make both short-form social media videos and long-form video podcasts successful. They know what’s trending on TikTok just as well as they know the week’s biggest news stories. It is also essential that this person can make quick decisions around breaking news and assign producers tasks to efficiently, but strategically, get the engaging and informative videos across digital platforms. They must work well under pressure and on deadlines.

They will report to the Editor of the Audience team in the newsroom. This role will oversee producers and be a critical leader on the team.

Responsibilities

- Expand New York Public Radio’s video podcast and short form social video strategy, which includes the local news shows, national podcasts and events
- Directly manage producers and daily assignments, providing clear expectations as well as consistent feedback
- Assist the Editor in top-editing multimedia social posts
- Attend daily editorial meetings and help identify opportunities for video reporting
- Work with audience team, desk editors and reporters to assign, produce and edit compelling videos
- Fill in for other digital producers as needed, which includes producing and curating WNYC & Gothamist newsletters, social media, app, websites and other digital platforms
- Create social media performance reports to track KPIs and tailor strategy as needed
- Develop templates and guidelines to empower producers across New York Public Radio to create great videos and optimize them for multiple platforms, with an emphasis on search optimization
- Collaborate with broader audience team to come up with new strategies to connect with audiences across emerging platforms

Qualifications

- Minimum of 5 years professional journalism experience, including some experience leading newsroom projects and/or teams. Formal management experience is preferred.
- Experience in video production and editing, with an eye towards social media
- Experience working in social media, newsletters, headline writing and other forms of digital news curation and distribution
- Experience using analytics tools for media websites and social media and turning data into actionable insights
- Familiarity with user experience and SEO content strategies
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines
- Proficient in journalism ethics and basic tenets

Additional Information:

This is a full-time role with an annual salary of $103,500.00. New York Public Radio also offers excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, vacation, personal and sick time as well as inclusive family leave.

This role is a hybrid capacity of two days a week in the office. With the ability to work from home at times. However, this position is part of the NYC staff and will be expected to work from WNYC's Lower Manhattan offices on specified days with regularity.
