POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Technical Service Assistant Manager provides leadership and direction for the regional Field Technical Service (FTS) team, supporting customer relationships, technical service excellence, business growth, and employee development. This role partners closely with customers and internal teams to ensure successful product launches, resolve technical and quality issues, and deliver exceptional service.
POSITON RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and develop the regional FTS team, ensuring employees receive required safety, compliance, technical, and job-specific training.
- Manage annual safety, EHS, DOT/IATA, and other business compliance requirements, including documentation and completion tracking.
- Train and support FTS Specialists and Representatives in quality assurance, complaint investigations, batch evaluation, process tracking, and customer-specific technical requirements.
- Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of customer technical data, including line maps, process parameters, quality metrics, color harmony, and other key performance information.
- Support effective use of SAP and other systems for inventory, manufacturing, and batch tracking in partnership with Sales and other internal teams.
- Partner with Quality Assurance, Product Development, Color, and Sales to translate technical investigation data into customer-facing reports and solutions.
- Establish and facilitate regular cross-functional technical reviews for key accounts, including project tracking, goals, attendance, and performance metrics.
- Coordinate FTS management support for key customers, including customer visits, technical meetings, special events, vacation coverage, and shutdown activities.
- Monitor and manage FTS-related expenses, including raw materials, customer samples, and other FOC items.
- Conduct annual performance reviews, establish employee goals, provide ongoing feedback, and develop individual training and development plans.
- Partner with the FTS Manager to establish and maintain effective training programs and job expectations for FTS Specialists and Representatives.
POSITION QUALIFICATION:
- Bachelors degree with a minimum of 5 years of automotive industry experience, or 10+ years of relevant experience in the automotive coatings industry.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Technical Service, Color Lab, paint processing, or a related role within an automotive finishing environment.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience with the ability to coach, develop, and lead technical teams.
- Strong understanding of automotive coatings, paint processes, quality requirements, and customer technical service.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and customer relationship skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Quality, Product Development, Color, and Operations.
