Overview
Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to perform district-based duties associated with the establishment and maintenance of LAN/WAN connectivity for the district. Employees in this classification function at an operational capacity and perform a variety of duties including working with network equipment, troubleshooting, technical support, training functions, as well as the development of network standards and procedures. Support district network projects and upgrades with planning, implementing and optimizing resources for efficient operations. This position also serves as a technical resource for all district/school staff and personnel. Performs related work as directed.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.Sets up and installs district network equipment including switches, wireless access points and UPS devices; troubleshoots and maintains Internet connectivity for all district sites.Assists users and Technology Support Representatives in planning, implementing and optimizing site networks.Assists in helping to coordinate work to be done with Facilities/Construction Division with projects including physical cabling for Ethernet and fiber cabling.Assists in helping district phone and Internet providers with planning, implementing and optimizing systems.Assists with designs and implements enterprise level networks; integrates disparate network operating systems.Generates ad hoc reports for administrative use.Provides user training for network equipment and dashboards.Provides documentation for network reliant applications.Evaluates and beta tests hardware and software for enterprise-wide deployment.Assists in the upgrade and removal of legacy systems.Use network monitoring tools to plan, implement and optimize network equipment district wide.Creates and maintains network standards and procedures; develops and maintains network security.Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, and software programs.Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department activities, which mayinclude network monitoring tools, Ethernet and fiber cable management as well as warehouse duties that include inventory management. Also manage deliveries using a forklift and pallet jack.Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.Performs related duties as directed. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Vocational/Technical degree with training emphasis in networks; supplemented by minimum five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes network installation and maintenance, or any equivalent combination of related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions. PERFORMANCE APTITUDES Data Utilization : Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data and/or information. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory and/or design data and information. Mathematical Aptitude : Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs. Functional Reasoning : Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
