DESCRIPTION:
Join our collaborative team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Tooling Engineer, where you'll contribute to excellence in supporting the design, modification, and release of plastic compo-nents and injection molds at the Tijuana site. Works collaboratively with Engineer-ing, Tooling, Manufacturing, and R&D teams to develop, refurbish, and improve tooling solutions that support new product introduction (NPI), business continuity, and production processes and equipment optimization. In this role, you'll work across functions to ensure high-quality manufacturing operations while contributing to our mission of enabling customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. You'll manage technical projects, implement process improvements, and provide essential support to manufacturing operations. REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Engineering, or related field.
• Experience supporting injection mold design, mold refurbishment projects, product transfers, and manufacturing sustainment activities.
• Experience working in regulated manufacturing environments, preferably medical device or life sciences industries.
• Supports mold design, refurbishment projects, business sustainment, and product transfers.
• Updates and generates technical drawings for plastic parts, injection molds, tool-ing components, and machinery parts.
• Performs reverse engineering of plastic components and injection molds.
• Works with suppliers on quotations for new molds, refurbishment projects, and engineering changes.
• Supports supplier audits related to tooling and machining processes.
• Identifies and proposes cost reduction initiatives related to machining and tooling expenses.
• Manages workload and assigned projects to ensure timely completion.
• Ensures compliance with internal quality standards and EHS requirements.
• Verifies that the tooling workshop maintains adequate tools and equipment for proper performance.
• Applies Thermo Fisher leadership principles and ensures adherence to the 4 I’s, Code of Ethics, and Code of Conduct.
• Supports Tool Room operations in specific projects in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• SolidWorks proficiency (required).
• Experience operating CNC machines, drills, grinders, CAD/CAM systems, and dimensional measurement instruments.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills and teamwork orientation.
• Experience with process validation, equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and technical documentation
• Experience in new mold manufacturing with international vendors and cross-functional team collaboration
• Strong problem-solving skills with data-driven decision-making approach
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages beneficial
• Experience training and supporting technical staff
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support Tooling operations.
