Ready to shape the future of resilient communities?
Verdantas is seeking a part-time Senior UI/UX Project Designer to join our team in Annapolis Junction, MD, Washington, DC, or Reston, VA.
In this role, you will design cohesive, workflow-driven experiences for an ecosystem of complex, data-intensive applications. The role translates complex business requirements into end-to-end user experiences, documents how applications work, and carries that understanding from early concept through final stakeholder-approved designs.
What You’ll Do:
User Experience Strategy & Workflow Design
- Lead the design of complete, workflow-driven user experiences for complex enterprise applications, including both administrative functionality and end-user workflows
- Document current and future-state user workflows, translating application behavior, user needs, and business requirements into clear interaction models, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs
- Ensure design decisions are carried consistently from discovery through final approved design to minimize implementation gaps and reduce the need for developers to make independent UX decisions
- Design intuitive user experiences for big-data applications, live-data interactions, and complex decision-support workflows
UI Design, Prototyping & Design Production
- Create low-fidelity concepts, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity user interface designs that are ready for stakeholder review and developer implementation
- Apply strong UI/UX design practices to improve usability, accessibility, interaction quality, and overall user satisfaction
- Use design tools such as Adobe XD, Illustrator, and Photoshop to produce clear, production-ready interface designs and supporting design assets
- Contribute to reusable design patterns, interface standards, and visual consistency across related applications and product workflows
Stakeholder Collaboration & Requirements Translation
- Partner closely with product owners, stakeholders, developers, and technical teams to understand needs, clarify requirements, and translate complex concepts into cohesive user experiences
- Facilitate design reviews, incorporate feedback, and drive alignment across business, product, and engineering stakeholders
- Advise teams on UX implications of workflow, data, and technical decisions, helping project teams make user-centered design decisions
- Work directly with technical contributors to support implementation clarity, including annotations, interaction notes, and design handoff documentation
Technical Collaboration & Implementation Awareness
- Collaborate with software developers working in Java Web, NodeJS, AWS, and related environments to ensure designs are feasible, maintainable, and aligned with technical architecture
- Support front-end implementation quality by providing guidance on styling, SCSS/SASS, micro-interactions, and user feedback patterns where applicable
- Work effectively in Agile/Scrum delivery environments and coordinate design deliverables with sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative development cycles
- Use version-controlled or DevOps-enabled collaboration practices, including GitLab where required, to support coordinated product delivery
Quality, Standards & Team Enablement
- Review designs for usability, consistency, accessibility, and implementation readiness before stakeholder approval and development handoff
- Provide informal guidance, mentoring, or review support to designers and visualization specialists
- Contribute to design standards, reusable assets, documentation practices, and workflow-design methods that improve quality and efficiency across application teams
- Support a culture of design quality by helping teams understand user workflows, reduce ambiguity, and build applications that serve both end-user and administrative needs
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for 4 years of experience; a master’s degree may be substituted for 6 years of experience
- 18 years of UI/UX design, UI/UX development, or highly related experience with similar scope and responsibilities
- Experience documenting user workflows and translating them into wireframes, prototypes, and final UI designs
- Experience designing complex, workflow-driven enterprise applications
- Proficiency with Adobe XD, Illustrator, and Photoshop in the required operating environment
- TS/SCI with active CI Polygraph
Preferred
- Experience implementing or partnering on SCSS/SASS styling, micro-animations, or interaction feedback patterns
- Familiarity with Java Web, NodeJS, AWS, GitLab, Agile/Scrum, and WebSockets or real-time data update patterns
- Experience with UX research, prototyping, communication, and user-centered design methods
