Organization and Position Overview
Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact.
The Laboratory Equipment Support Group (LESG) Technician supports all laboratories and operations at the Foundry by performing hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration support, instrument investigation input, and equipment lifecycle activities. This role is responsible for executing preventive and corrective maintenance activities, supporting IQ/OQ/PQ qualification readiness and execution, documenting work in CMMS, coordinating with LESG Scheduler, Specialists, and vendors, and maintaining audit-ready equipment records in accordance with GMP/GxP, GLP, safety, and Lilly standards
Responsibilities
- Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance (PM) on analytical instruments, including Waters UPLC/ACQUITY systems, Patrols, Agilent HPLC/UHPLC systems, LC/MS, GC/MS, and associated peripherals, as assigned.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities on ESG-supported laboratory equipment to restore and maintain equipment functionality.
- Troubleshoot E2, and E3 category equipment within assigned scope and provide hands-on technical support during investigations or service events.
- Support execution of IQ/OQ/PQ qualification protocols and pre-qualification readiness activities under GMP, GLP, GxP, and applicable safety standards.
- Complete accurate, detailed, and audit-ready service reports, maintenance records, and equipment documentation for each work order, investigation, and regulatory submission package as required.
- Document maintenance, service, calibration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle activities in CMMS with timely updates and appropriate supporting information.
- Support instrument moves, relocations, modifications, retirements, and new equipment onboarding activities in partnership with ESG Leads, Specialists, System Owners, Lab Operations, and external vendors.
- Act as a technical escalation point for critical equipment service issues and support resolution through investigation, root-cause input, and corrective actions.
- Train laboratory users and junior engineers/technicians on instrument operation, routine maintenance expectations, troubleshooting practices, and Empower software where applicable.
- Escort vendors and external service providers performing onsite service work and ensure activities are coordinated with laboratory operations and site requirements.
- Coordinate with the LESG Scheduler, LESG Specialists, System Owners, and external vendors to support timely completion of maintenance, service, qualification, and lifecycle activities.
- Maintain effective customer relationships with laboratory partners and identify service improvement or support growth opportunities.
Basic Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in a scientific, engineering, technical, or operations-related field OR equivalent laboratory, technical service, instrumentation, or maintenance experience
- Hands-on experience servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or supporting analytical laboratory instruments such as HPLC, UHPLC, UPLC, LC/MS, GC/MS, and associated peripherals.
- Working knowledge of GMP/GxP, GLP, quality, documentation, and safety expectations in regulated laboratories or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to execute and document preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, calibration support, service reports, and equipment-related activities in a compliant manner.

Additional Preferences:
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, customers, external vendors, and laboratory operations partners.
- Experience supporting analytical laboratory equipment in GMP/GxP or GLP environments.
- Experience executing or supporting IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, analytical instrument qualification, or pre-qualification readiness activities.
- Experience with Waters, Agilent, Thermo, LC/MS, GC/MS, UPLC, HPLC, UHPLC, Empower, or similar chromatography and laboratory informatics systems.
- Experience supporting audits, inspections, regulatory readiness activities, service ticket closure, or regulatory submission packages.
- Familiarity with quality systems, site procedures, CMMS, laboratory operations, or equipment lifecycle processes.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment requiring safe handling of chemicals, wearing appropriate PPE, and understanding safety-related equipment or considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers or technicians and provide technical escalation support for critical service issues.
- Good interpersonal skills with a sustained tendency for collaboration, teamwork, customer focus, and timely response to requests/issues.
- Ability to prioritize multiple activities, manage ambiguity, and support changing business needs in a startup laboratory environment.
- Experience coordinating service work with internal schedulers, specialists, system owners, vendors, and laboratory customers.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
