IT Operations Project Manager - Austin, TX
A public sector organization is seeking an experienced IT Operations Project Manager to lead a large-scale laptop refresh initiative. The role will begin fully remote and is expected to transition to a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) based on business needs.
The Project Manager will oversee procurement, deployment coordination, statewide logistics, technician scheduling, stakeholder communication, RAID management, and governance activities for a large‑scale device refresh initiative. This position requires a Microsoft subject matter expert, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and enterprise‑level device management processes.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of the AL Laptop Refresh Project.
• Manage schedules, scope, risks, issues, dependencies, and deliverables.
• Coordinate with leadership, IT Operations, Service Desk, Information Security, and Asset Management.
• Oversee imaging, deployment readiness, technician assignments, and statewide logistics.
• Track progress, completion metrics, and issue resolution.
• Produce executive dashboards, status reports, and stakeholder communications.
• Maintain RAID logs, project plans, change requests, and closeout documentation.
• Manage vendors and cross‑functional teams throughout the lifecycle.
• Support process improvements for future refresh initiatives.
Required Qualifications
• 8+ years progressive IT project management experience.
• Proven experience leading hardware deployment or enterprise refresh programs.
• Strong knowledge of SDLC, PMBOK, Agile, and change management.
• Experience managing enterprise IT operations projects.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Vendor management experience.
• Microsoft SME proficiency across core project and collaboration tools.
Preferred Qualifications
• PMP, CSM, or ITIL certification.
• Experience with Texas state agencies.
• Experience supporting statewide IT initiatives.
• Background in large‑scale deployments (800+ devices).
