In this team-leading role, you perform and delegate technical work, provide oversight on welding engineering activities, and manage project scheduling and resource planning. You collaborate closely with project managers, mechanical design engineers, sourcing teams, equipment manufacturers, and engineering leadership to deliver high-quality, compliant welded products for next-generation nuclear technology. Responsibilities:

- Develop and optimize designs and processes for welded components to support improvements to existing products and the development of new products.
- Operate within a matrixed engineering team to deliver high-quality technical outputs that meet customer requirements, internal business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.
- Perform metallurgical analysis of weldments, applying knowledge of the physical and welding metallurgy of austenitic stainless steels.
- Apply familiarity or expertise with welding processes such as GTAW and work in accordance with relevant codes and standards, including ASME BPVC Section III Division 1, Section IX, and AWS A3.0.
- Assist engineers with weld joint design concepts and design for component producibility, maintaining a focus on assessing causality and risk.
- Provide technical support to sourcing teams for fabricator assessment and technical interfaces.
- Troubleshoot welding issues, identify root causes, and provide and support implementation of effective solutions.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect proprietary welding technologies that offer competitive advantages to the business.
- Create schedules and work estimates for welding projects to meet business and customer needs and timelines.
- Lead the welding engineering team by assigning resources, tracking and communicating progress, escalating issues when necessary, and performing hands-on technical work.
- Support a wide range of business applications including existing plant services, fuel and component manufacture, and new plant design in the nuclear sector.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, product managers, and engineering leadership, to communicate technical content clearly and effectively.
- Ensure that welded designs and processes align with applicable codes and standards, including ASME BPV Code Section III Division V, Section VIII Division 1, and AWS D1.1 and D1.6.

Essential Skills:

- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience working in an engineering environment.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing and solving moderately complex design problems related to welded components and processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a solid understanding of mechanical processes.
- Ability to understand complex technical content and communicate it clearly to diverse stakeholders, including engineers, project managers, product managers, and leadership.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to write organized and coherent engineering documents.
- Proven interpersonal and leadership skills, including experience leading technical teams and coordinating resources.
- Familiarity with the physical and welding metallurgy of austenitic stainless steels.
- Working knowledge of welding processes such as GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and LBW.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including ASME BPVC Section III Division 1, Section IX, ASME BPV Code Section III Division V, Section VIII Division 1, and AWS D1.1 and D1.6.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) practices.
- Experience working in an engineering environment supporting nuclear applications, with familiarity in BWR or PWR industry preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

- Experience in analyzing and resolving design issues that involve welded components and complex mechanical systems.
- Ability to assess manufacturability and producibility of welded components and provide practical design recommendations.
- Experience preparing technical documentation, reports, and invention disclosures that capture innovative welding solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot welding issues and implement corrective actions.
- Familiarity with the physical and welding metallurgy of carbon steels, low alloy steels, nickel alloys, zirconium, and aluminum alloys.
- Experience working with next-generation nuclear technology and supporting existing plant services, fuel and component manufacturing, and new plant design.
- Comfort working in a highly collaborative, matrixed engineering environment with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.

Work Environment:

- This is a fully remote role based in the United States, with frequent virtual collaboration and technical interfacing with teams in Canada.
- You work within a matrixed engineering organization focused on next-generation nuclear technology, using modern collaboration tools to coordinate with project management, mechanical design, sourcing, and equipment manufacturers.
