human space exploration. We are seeking a Space Food Systems Laboratory Lead Technician at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX
What You'll Do:
In this role, you will provide technical support to NASA’s space flight food
system and research studies supporting the International Space Station,
Artemis, the Human Research Program and ground analog studies. You will ensure food processing and packaging areas
are clean and sanitary, lead the preparation of Freeze-dried food
products for further processing, support packaging of flight and research food
items, perform all work in compliance with good manufacturing practices, and
provided food service support for NASA’s Health Stabilization Program
activities.
You will:
- Lead the preparation of food products for flight or
research, including preparation of facility, food preparation, packaging,
labeling and container stowage.
- Monitor equipment settings and support sanitation and
maintenance, as required, prior to food production
- Prepare and handle sanitation chemicals with required
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Collect and submit sanitation and food samples for
microbiological analysis
- Complete required quality documentation, task
performance sheets and verification for processing, packaging, and stowage
tasks
- Provide food service support for Health Stabilization
Program events at Johnson Space Center
- Other duties as assigned such as performing analytical
tests and inventory
- Train other technicians on the job
What You
Bring:
You bring experience performing technical work in food service, food
production or culinary arts. You use your experience and knowledge of good
manufacturing practices to perform food handling and production tasks at a high
level. You comply with all applicable Safety, Health, Environmental, and
Quality requirements.
Requirements
Your Qualifications:
• High School diploma, with 5 years’ previous experience in food service,
food production, or culinary arts
• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required

Desired Qualifications:
• BS degree in Food Science or related field
• Post-secondary training in food service, food production, or culinary arts
• ANAB Certified National Food Manager or complete the certification post

• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices for food handling/production
Your Skills:
• Ability to lead technical teams to meet performance expectations
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Reliable and consistent work habits
• Basic computer skills – MS Word, Excel
• Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs
• Capable of standing for long periods of time, working with equipment,
wearing PPE including mask, hair net, gloves, lab coat, safety shoes
What to Expect:
This position is
expected to be onsite at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.
Occasional travel may be required.

This position is subject to the Service Contract Act (“SCA”) and your pay and benefits comply with the Area-Wide Wage Determination (“AWD”) applicable to the contract. This position will pay no less than the amount included in the AWD for the corresponding labor category. Additionally, this position will be eligible to receive the Health and Welfare Benefit included in the AWD, less the cost of certain benefits, including retirement.
