About the Department

To achieve its goals the EOP works closely with the Office of Legal Counsel, Human Resources, Employee and Labor Relations, and Campus and Student Life in collaboration with academic and administrative leaders throughout the University. UChicago CARES (Center for Awareness, Resolution, Education, and Support) works to prevent and respond to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in the University community.
Job Summary
The Support Services Coordinator is a full-time administrative staff position reporting to the Director, UChicago CARES (The Center for Awareness, Resolution, Education and Support). The Coordinator is responsible for supporting University-wide compliance efforts in the areas of discrimination, harassment, bullying, sexual misconduct, Title IX, Title VI, equal opportunity, and related federal, state, and local laws and University policies. Key duties include conducting intakes, providing supportive services, and providing administrative support for matters under investigation within both the Laboratory School (K-12) as well as the University.

The Coordinator also works closely with colleagues within EOP to create and maintain a holistic approach to prevention, education, support, and response in support of all members of the campus community, consistent with the University’s compliance efforts related to non-discrimination and UChicago CARES core values.

Responsibilities

Laboratory School Support & Response (50%)

- Responds to students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and others who report possible discrimination or harassment at the Laboratory School.
- Conducts initial intakes of Laboratory School student reports of sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, bullying, and stalking.
- Conducts a safety analysis upon receiving new reports, collaborating with Lab and University partners to implement interim measures and/or accommodations when needed, providing all parties with information regarding support services (including the University’s confidential resources and support services in the community), providing Lab students and parents with information regarding investigation and disciplinary processes, and providing Lab students, parents, and administration with information regarding the pursuit of criminal remedies.
- Position holds regular office hours at the Lab School to support individuals seeking information on supportive services and/or reporting.
- Provides administrative support for investigations, including note-taking and drafting of documents.

Main Campus Support & Response (30%)

- Provides initial intake response and meets with individuals reporting incidents of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.

- Provide information regarding the availability of supportive measures, resources, and referrals to University resolution processes, as appropriate.

- Coordinate the implementation of supportive measures including issuing No Contact Directives or coordinating safety and support measures.

- Take detailed case notes and receive any additional information regarding incidents.

- Provide ongoing case support, including follow up emails to check in with individuals and continued coordination of supportive measures, including communication with faculty regarding academic accommodations or coordination with other campus resources including deans of students, housing, dining, etc.

CARES Program Support & Education (20%)

- Lead projects as directed by CARES leadership on related University policy and process development and case management.
- Monitors incoming reports and provides initial response to reports as part of the CARES response team, on a rotating basis, as needed.
- Develop and present educational sessions on youth protection on campus.
- Serve on related committees as requested.
- Plans and executes internal and external audits and activities to support regulatory agency inspections.
- Prepares, completes and submits all compliance documentation on a routine basis. Coordinates compliance committee meetings.
- Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

- Master’s degree in related field.

Experience:

- Experience working within higher education.

Preferred Competencies

- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in an intense and fast-paced environment, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

- Advanced ability to utilize technology.

- Knowledge of relevant laws in a higher education setting (e.g., Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, VAWA/Campus SaVE, FERPA, Clery).

- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with absolute discretion.

- Judgment and maturity in dealing effectively with sensitive issues.

- Demonstrated teamwork skills to lead and collaborate with a wide range of constituents.

Working Conditions

- Some evening/weekend work required.

- This is a hybrid position.
