About the Position

Our client is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.

The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers, field supervision, clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to keep projects organized, on schedule, and within budget.

This position is designed for a construction professional who wants to expand their project management expertise, with a clear path toward a Project Manager role .

Full mechanical scope experience across HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal
is preferred, although candidates with strong experience in a single mechanical trade will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

- Support Project Managers in managing multiple commercial mechanical projects from preconstruction through closeout.

- Track project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and critical dates.

- Assist with equipment and material procurement, buyout, and expediting.

- Coordinate deliveries and logistics with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.

- Prepare, submit, and track submittals, RFIs, transmittals, and change-order logs.

- Assist with change-order pricing, documentation, and tracking.

- Help prepare schedules of values, monthly billings, and job-cost reports.

- Conduct jobsite walks and support inspections, quality checks, and field issue resolution.

- Monitor compliance with company standards, safety requirements, specifications, and applicable codes.

- Maintain regular communication with clients, Project Managers, field supervision, vendors, and subcontractors.

- Maintain organized project documentation and records throughout the project lifecycle.

- Assist with project closeout, including punch lists, O&M manuals, as-built drawings, warranties, and other required documentation.

- Attend project coordination meetings, owner/contractor meetings, and internal staff meetings.

- Take on increasing project responsibilities as experience and capabilities develop.

Requirements

- 5+ years of experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, or a related field.

- Associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience will be considered.

- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.

- Strong project coordination, expediting, logistics, and documentation skills.

- OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.

- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or other construction/project management software preferred.

- Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, field personnel, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.

Preferred Skills & Technology

Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, job-cost/accounting systems, and construction scheduling software is preferred.
