The anticipated salary range for this role is between $75,000.00 and $120,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC is seeking a professional to join the Loan Capital Markets Middle Office to support the execution and settlement of secondary loan trades. This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end closing and settlement process for par and distressed secondary transactions, working closely with trading desks, operations, legal counsel, and agent banks to ensure timely and accurate trade execution.

Role Objectives: Delivery

- Manage the end-to-end secondary loan closing process, including trade capture through settlement.

- Prepare and review trade documentation (participation agreement, assignment and acceptance agreement, trade confirmation, funding memo, settlement notice).

- Coordinate execution of Par/Near-Par (LSTA) settlements, as applicable.

- Coordinate funding memos / flow of funds and settlement mechanics with internal operations and external agent banks.

- Monitor trade settlement timelines, and act as primary point of contact for trade settlement, proactively manage delays or escalations.

- Resolve settlement breaks, cash discrepancies, and delayed compensation claims.

- Liaise with trading desk, legal, agent banks, counterparties, and operations teams to ensure timely execution

- Coordinate KYC/AML and counterparty onboarding, as needed.

- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and KYC standards.

- Maintain accurate booking and reconciliation of positions across systems (e.g., ClearPar / LoanIQ).

- Monitor and report settlement delays, while partnering with the trading desk to identify next steps and determine an appropriate resolution strategy.

Qualifications and Skills

- 3–5+ years of experience in loan closing, loan operations, or secondary loan trading support

- Work experience in a corporate bank or other financial institution including syndications team is preferred

- Education: BA / BS required

- Strong understanding of: Secondary loan trading (LSTA/LMA frameworks), Assignment agreements and settlement mechanics, and Credit agreements and transfer provisions

- Experience working with ClearPar and LoanIQ

- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

- Works well in a team-oriented environment and able to develop strong relationships with individuals at all levels in the organization
