This position is a non-regular rank appointment providing advanced postdoctoral clinical training in the practice of psychology.
About the Role
The Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a Provisional Faculty member (Postdoctoral Fellow) to provide psychological interventions to adults experiencing acute and chronic pain. This position offers advanced clinical training in the application of empirically validated treatments within our specialized pain psychology clinic. You will work within a highly collaborative, team-based environment under clinical supervision while fulfilling your requirements for full North Carolina licensure.
What You’ll Do (Clinical & Other Responsibilities)
- Diagnostic & Clinical Assessment: Conduct clinical interviews, comprehensive evaluations, and specialized assessment measures for adults presenting with acute and chronic pain conditions to effectively guide treatment planning.
- Evidence-Based Treatment: Deliver individual and group clinical interventions in an outpatient clinic setting, targeting acute and chronic pain conditions.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in team meetings and coordinate care with the clinical triage team, pain medicine physicians, psychiatrists, and other treatment providers.
- Academic & Clinical Engagement: Participate in regular clinical supervision, case consultations, and didactics to support advanced professional growth within an academic health system.
What We’re Looking For (Required Qualifications)
- Education: Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in clinical psychology or a closely related field from an APA-accredited program.
- Training: Completion of an APA-accredited clinical internship.
- Licensure: Eligible to pursue provisional licensure as a psychologist in North Carolina.
- Core Competencies: Experience delivering clinical interventions within an academic medical center or integrated hospital setting, with a strong foundational training in behavioral medicine and a clear career focus on pain psychology.
