Position Summary

The Senior Fire Systems Technician / Technical Team Lead serves as the primary technical resource for fire alarm and life safety system installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service activities. This role combines advanced technical expertise with field leadership responsibilities, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to technicians while ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled fire systems professional who can lead by example, solve complex technical challenges, support project execution, and foster the development of junior team members while maintaining strong customer relationships.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership

Serve as the technical lead for fire alarm system installations, upgrades, commissioning, and service activities.

Provide guidance, mentorship, and field support to technicians and junior team members.

Act as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues and troubleshooting challenges.

Support Sales Engineers during customer evaluations, solution discussions, and technical reviews.

Promote best practices related to installation quality, safety, documentation, and customer service.

System Installation & Commissioning

Install, program, configure, test, and commission fire alarm systems and related low-voltage building technologies.

Verify compliance with applicable life safety codes, manufacturer requirements, project specifications, and local regulations.

Perform system start-up, functional testing, final inspections, punch-list resolution, and customer training.

Review blueprints, submittals, specifications, and as-built documentation to ensure successful project delivery.

Troubleshooting & Service

Diagnose and resolve advanced system malfunctions, communication issues, wiring faults, and device failures.

Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and service work while minimizing customer downtime.

Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions for recurring issues.

Ensure service documentation and project records are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.

Customer & Team Collaboration

Build strong relationships with customers through professional communication and technical expertise.

Collaborate with internal teams including engineering, project management, operations, and service personnel.

Assist with onboarding and training efforts for new technicians.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance team performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Administrative Responsibilities

Complete required service reports, inspection documentation, time tracking, and project records.

Maintain company-owned tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and inventory.

Support operational reporting and project closeout requirements.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

High school diploma or GED required; vocational or trade school education in electrical, electronics, fire protection, or communication systems preferred.

6+ years of experience installing, programming, servicing, or commissioning fire alarm and low-voltage systems.

Demonstrated experience leading projects or providing technical direction to field technicians.

NICET Level II certification required; NICET Level III preferred.

Strong understanding of NFPA standards, life safety codes, local regulations, and industry best practices.

Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, submittals, wiring diagrams, and product documentation.

Proficiency using hand tools, testing equipment, multimeters, analyzers, and commissioning devices.

Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft 365, mobile applications, tablets, and related technology platforms.

Demonstrated sense of ownership, accountability, and urgency.

Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

NICET Level III Certification.

Experience with multiple fire alarm platforms and building systems technologies.

Previous experience serving as a lead technician, field supervisor, crew lead, or technical mentor.

Knowledge of integrated building systems including security, access control, and building automation systems.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in a variety of environments including construction sites, occupied facilities, rooftops, crawl spaces, ceilings, mechanical rooms, and outdoor conditions.

Ability to climb ladders, use lifts, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in elevated locations.

Ability to distinguish colors, read wiring diagrams, and perform detailed technical work.

Ability to operate hand tools, testing equipment, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Ability to meet customer and project site access requirements as needed.
