About this role
As part of the Envelop Group family of companies, PSG Energy Group makes it easy for customers to explore and implement energy savings and sustainability measures. We take a comprehensive look at our client's energy usage to identify savings and renewable solution opportunities. We manage the entire process from concept through engineering through installation and provide ongoing O&M support.
The Solar Energy Electrical Engineering Manager leads PSG Energy Group's engineering team and oversees the electrical design of commercial and industrial solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This position serves as a technical leader throughout the EPC project lifecycle and is responsible for ensuring designs are safe, constructible, code-compliant, and aligned with customer and project requirements.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer with strong electrical engineering experience in behind-the-meter solar and energy storage systems who can lead and develop other engineers and review, approve, and seal engineering documents where licensed.
What You'll Do
Engineering Leadership & Project Support
- Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers responsible for solar PV and battery storage design.
- Assign and prioritize engineering work, manage design schedules, and ensure engineering deadlines and project requirements are met.
- Establish and continuously improve engineering standards, design criteria, processes, templates, and best practices.
- Review engineering work for technical accuracy, code compliance, constructability, consistency, and quality.
- Review, approve, and seal engineering drawings and documents in jurisdictions where professionally licensed.
- Lead design and engineering reviews and provide technical support during customer, utility, subcontractor, and project meetings.
- Coordinate effectively with project managers, field personnel, subcontractors, utilities, equipment manufacturers, customers, AHJs, and other engineering disciplines.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, training, goal setting, and performance management for engineering staff.
- Support projects throughout the EPC lifecycle, including development, estimating, preconstruction, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Electrical Engineering & Design
- Develop and oversee electrical designs for commercial and industrial behind-the-meter solar PV and BESS projects, including rooftop, ground-mounted, and carport systems.
- Design systems around existing and new facility infrastructure, including low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, equipment layouts, calculations, system sizing, and permit, IFC, and as-built drawing packages.
- Perform or oversee electrical calculations and power-system studies, including conductor and equipment sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit, protective-device coordination, grounding, and arc-flash requirements as applicable.
- Review and select major electrical equipment, including inverters, battery systems, PCS equipment, transformers, switchgear, panelboards, disconnects, metering, monitoring, and controls.
- Coordinate PV and BESS systems with facility electrical infrastructure, generators, transfer switches, building automation systems, energy management systems, SCADA, and other controls.
- Support utility interconnection applications, studies, protection requirements, witness testing, and resolution of utility comments.
- Coordinate electrical design with structural, civil, mechanical, controls, utility, and other project requirements.
- Conduct site assessments and evaluate existing electrical infrastructure and site conditions.
- Review subcontractor proposals, equipment submittals, technical scopes of work, and vendor packages.
- Respond to RFIs and resolve field design and constructability issues during construction.
- Support system startup, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and final project turnover.
- Ensure projects comply with approved drawings, applicable codes and standards, utility requirements, customer standards, and contractual requirements.
ESCO & Project Development Support
- Provide engineering support for ESCO/GESC projects and coordinate electrical design with energy conservation measures and other facility improvements.
- Support conceptual design, equipment selection, technical due diligence, cost estimating, proposal development, and RFP responses.
- Coordinate with energy engineers on energy savings calculations, measurement and verification requirements, and project performance objectives.
- Participate in constructability reviews and value-engineering efforts to balance technical requirements, project cost, performance, and schedule.
- Clearly communicate technical recommendations and design decisions to both technical and non-technical customers and stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
