A Brief Overview
The Acute Care Technician provides direct and indirect care duties under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse. The role performs a variety of invasive and non-invasive technical skills and specialized patient care procedures as well as other duties to support 24-hours of hospital operations.
Work Schedule
Full Time - 72 Hours Biweekly
Rotating Day, Evening, Nights on a 6 week period
Weekend requirement every 3rd weekend
What you will do
- Assists in the provision of care to patients and families under the direction of the RN, including but not limited to;
- Performs or assists RN with initial triage / intake / evaluation for care
- Documents patient care, vitals, weights, allergies, interventions
- Monitors care and escalates concerns to clinical care team
- Quickly and accurately communicates patient information to the appropriate team member
- Performs bedside clinician role in traumas and resuscitations
- Performs basic life support airway clearance including suctioning
- Positions patients for various procedures and specimen collections including lumbar punctures
- Transfers patients to other departments and areas utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment per departmental guidelines
- Provides 1:1 safety observation per hospital standard
- Initiates Behavioral Health Screening per policy
- Application, removal, and supervision of restraints as per policy
- Assists with evidence collection per hospital policy
- Assists with dressing changes for central venous catheters
- Assists with recovery from Phase II sedation
- Performs procedures under direction of RN or Provider, including but not limited to;
- Positioning, lifting, transferring, and turning of patients
- Point of Care Testing
- Peripheral IV insertion with and without venous blood sampling
- Venipuncture/phlebotomy
- Priming of parenteral fluids and enteral feeds
- Oxygen administration, inclusive of bag-valve mask or mapleson airway support
- EKGs
- Wound care / dressing application
- Casting and splinting per policy under the direction of the ED Provider
- Spinal immobilization
- Bladder scanning
- Straight catheterization
- OG/NG placement for gastric decompression
- Maintains proficiency with transport and patient care equipment including, but not limited to, stretchers, monitoring and infusion pump
- Responds to hospital emergencies as per local emergency response plans
- Acts as hospital Decontamination Team member and participates in Bioresponse Preparedness
- Complies with all CHOP policies and procedures
- Utilizes and exemplifies safety behaviors for error prevention. Identifies potential safety concerns and communicates with clinical and unit leadership as appropriate
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED - Required
- Technical Diploma EMT-Paramedic, EMT, LPN or similar program - Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year Previous clinical health care experience - Required
- ED/Critical Care Technician at another hospital - Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform clinical technical tasks. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages. (Required proficiency)
- Basic knowledge of growth and development. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Preferred or
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Preferred

SALARY RANGE:
$23.20 - $28.95 Hourly
Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
