Job Summary
The San Mateo County Event Center is a public assembly facility that hosts a wide variety of events and produces the San Mateo County Fair and runs the Jockey Club - A satellite wagering facility for horse racing, as well as a full-service food service operation. The cashier is responsible for operating the POS/Cash register smooth flow of customer traffic.
This is an as-needed position, where the schedule will be determined based on specific events or projects, with no regular or set hours.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Greet guests warmly and take their orders
- Share information about menu items, answer questions, and upsell in applicable situations
- Enter orders into the point-of-sale system (Toast) and accurately process cash, credit, and debit payments
- Coordinate with the cook to make sure hot food reaches guests quickly and correctly
- Respond to guest needs promptly and resolve concerns with a positive, solution-focused attitude
- Keep the concession area, including counters, food displays, utensils, tables, and floors, clean and organized
- Restock food and beverage supplies, following proper storage and handling procedures
- Follow all health and safety regulations to keep guests and staff safe
- Support teammates and management, especially during busy times
- Pitch in wherever needed, as directed by Supervisor or Manager
Qualifications
- Preferred 1-3 years customer service experience in a hospitality, food service, or retail environment
- Experience handling credit card transactions
- Strong customer service and communication skills, both spoken and written
- Ability to work efficiently and stay composed under pressure
- A positive attitude, with the ability to build good working relationships with managers, co-workers, and guests, and to work independently or as part of a team
- Reliability and accountability in meeting job responsibilities
- Flexibility to work as needed schedule
- Irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
Minimum Requirements
- Any combination of education, experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the responsibilities of this position. One year of customer. High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain valid Food Handlers and Responsible Beverage Server certifications within 30 days of employment.
