About the Role
The Director of the Strategic and Tactical Opportunities team is a key member of Latham’s Global Finance team and will play a critical role in expanding the group’s presence across the United States. Working closely with senior internal stakeholders, including firm partners and leadership, as well as clients and other external stakeholders, this individual will manage the U.S.-based team, establish strategic priorities, lead projects, allocate resources effectively, and foster a high-performing, collaborative culture. The role requires strong alignment and partnership with the team’s leadership and colleagues across the global team to drive the successful execution of the group’s objectives.
This position will be based in our New York office and may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement that supports a combination of in-office and remote work. While based in New York, the role has a truly global scope and will involve regular travel to other Latham offices and client locations worldwide. About the Team The Strategic and Tactical Opportunities team is a globally integrated function that combines investment and market research, strategic insight, and industry intelligence to help the Firm and its clients identify and capitalize on emerging opportunities. Leveraging expertise from leading financial institutions, consulting firms, and the legal industry, the team provides actionable insights on markets, companies, and transactions. It supports partners and Firm leadership with strategic perspectives that inform growth and positioning, while delivering tailored intelligence to clients across private equity, private credit, special situations, corporate, and sovereign sectors. Through its global reach and multidisciplinary approach, the team provides a distinctive view of the opportunities and trends shaping today's business landscape.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Other key responsibilities include:
- Partnering closely with senior partners, client teams, and firm leadership, providing informed perspectives on market developments, emerging opportunities, and themes relevant to their practices, clients, and strategic priorities
- Maintaining a continuous view of the market, identifying early signals, structural shifts, and emerging themes across financial markets, industries, and products, and assessing their potential relevance to the firm and its clients
- Translating complex market and industry developments into differentiated, commercially relevant insights, and actionable recommendations, drawing on quantitative analysis, qualitative research, proprietary intelligence, and external perspectives
- Identifying and evaluating opportunities across sectors, geographies, products, and transactions, connecting market developments with the firm’s capabilities, relationships, and strategic priorities
- Leading high-profile and strategically important projects from inception through delivery, defining the analytical approach, mobilizing resources, and ensuring rigorous, high-quality outputs
- Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Demonstrate exceptional analytical, strategic and commercial judgment, with the ability to synthesize complex market, financial and industry information into clear, actionable insights
- Exhibit deep knowledge of financial markets, industries and products, with the ability to identify emerging trends and opportunities
- Possess outstanding communication and executive presence, with the credibility to engage effectively with senior management, partners, clients, investors, and other external stakeholders
And have:
- A bachelor's degree
- A JD, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree from a leading global institution, preferably
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in investment banking, investment management, equity research, management consulting, strategic advisory, corporate finance, or a related field; demonstrated progression into senior roles with responsibility for leading complex, high-impact work and advising senior stakeholders with proven experience developing market, investment or strategic analysis and translating complex information into clear, actionable insights
- A minimum of ten (10) years of cumulative experience
- Experience working with law firms, professional services firms, institutional investors or sophisticated corporate clients, preferably

## Pay Range
USD $350,000.00 - USD $400,000.00 /Yr.
