Your role
Radio-Canada Toronto is looking for a reporter-editor to join its team. This is a temporary position until the end of March 2027.
The selected candidate will identify and produce local stories that directly affect and feature Francophones in Toronto and Southern Ontario. They will also be called upon to report, explain, and popularize news stories on various topics.
They will present their content in text, video, or audio format across all Radio-Canada platforms, with priority given to digital formats.
Your responsibilities:
- Pitch and produce stories that directly touch and feature Francophones in Toronto and Southern Ontario, whether in short or long formats, text or visual.
- Design and deliver engaging journalistic content, from research and writing to video, audio, and text editing.
- Work closely with other team members in news and programming in Toronto and elsewhere.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with a wide variety of sources and contacts.
- Provide analysis on news topics.
- Edit audio and video content to produce reports within established deadlines.
- Respond quickly to breaking news.
- Quickly summarize large amounts of complex information under time constraints.
This role requires full-time on-site presence.
Your profile:
- University degree in journalism or equivalent, and at least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience.
- Ability to find story ideas and present them to a broad audience from an engaging perspective.
- Proven professional ethics within diverse teams.
- Advanced knowledge of key issues affecting Francophones in Toronto and Southern Ontario, including immigration, health, education, and other areas.
- Experience in validating, reviewing, fact-checking, and formatting news content.
- Ability to write reports based on interviews gathered or live web events, filling in gaps as needed.
- Willingness to learn and take on new tasks across all Radio-Canada platforms.
- Strong journalistic judgment and ability to work effectively under pressure in a newsroom.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong team spirit.
- Strong commitment to embodying and promoting diversity, inclusion, and respect in the workplace.
- Ability to develop original, self-directed journalism.
- A valid driver's license and driving record meeting CBC/Radio-Canada insurer minimum requirements is an important asset.
- Ability to work various shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
- Knowledge of audio and video editing software is an asset.
- Excellent command of French and very good knowledge of English, an asset.
