Job Title: Sr Structural Engineer (PE) Job Description The Sr Structural Engineer (PE) will serve as the technical and operational leader for the structural engineering practice in the Columbus, Ohio office. This role combines hands-on structural engineering, project leadership, business development support, mentoring, and practice development. You will establish and grow a structural engineering team that reflects high-quality standards and execution excellence across industrial facilities and infrastructure projects. Primary market sectors include power generation, electric transmission and distribution, bulk material handling, and oil and gas facilities. You will provide technical leadership on structural engineering projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, safe, and cost-effective solutions, and you will help expand the firms presence in the Midwest through client development, proposal support, recruitment, staff mentoring, and successful project delivery. Responsibilities
- Lead the structural engineering practice in the Columbus office, serving as the technical and operational point of contact for structural projects.
- Establish, grow, and mentor a structural engineering team that aligns with the firms capabilities, quality standards, and execution excellence.
- Provide technical leadership for structural engineering projects in sectors such as power generation, electric transmission and distribution, bulk material handling, industrial facilities, and oil and gas.
- Serve as lead engineer, discipline lead, or engineering manager on multidiscipline projects, coordinating effectively with other engineering disciplines.
- Perform and oversee structural analysis and design for concrete structures, deep foundations, reinforced concrete, and other structural systems.
- Use structural analysis and design software, as well as CAD and BIM tools, to develop accurate and efficient designs and documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver practical, safe, and cost-effective engineering solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client development activities and contributing to proposal preparation and technical scope development.
- Recruit, train, and mentor structural engineering staff to build a high-performing team and support career development.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, including AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, and applicable industrial design standards.
- Communicate effectively with clients, internal stakeholders, and project teams through clear written reports, presentations, and verbal updates.
- Contribute to practice development by improving processes, tools, and standards to enhance project delivery and technical quality.
- Travel to project sites and client locations as needed to support field activities, site assessments, and project execution.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis, or Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to obtain Ohio PE registration within six months if currently licensed in another state.
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible structural engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading structural engineering projects in one or more of the following industries: power generation, electric transmission and distribution, industrial facilities, bulk material handling, and oil and gas.
- Proven experience serving as lead engineer, discipline lead, or engineering manager on multidiscipline projects.
- Strong proficiency in structural analysis and design, including concrete structures, deep foundations, and reinforced concrete.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD.Pro and similar tools.
- Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and BIM coordination tools for design and documentation.
- In-depth knowledge of AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, and applicable industrial design standards.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and client communication skills.

- Flexibility on years of experience for exceptionally qualified candidates on a clear path to obtaining a PE license within the next six months.
- Ability to provide strong technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level structural engineers.
- Comfort working in multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with various stakeholders across engineering disciplines and project functions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in engineering practice.
Work Environment Work is primarily conducted in a private or semi-private office environment, with regular interaction with other team members, supervisors, and client personnel. The role requires occasional travel to off-site work locations and construction sites. Field duties involve outdoor work in a construction site atmosphere and in plant or shop areas around production machinery, where extreme noise levels may be present. You must be able to wear safety equipment and personal protective gear as required by safety policies. The position may involve visiting more than one job site in a single day and requires the ability to tolerate varying climate conditions. Periodic out-of-town travel may be necessary to support project and client needs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $208000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
