About this role

The opportunity

The Senior Associate, Corporate Accounting supports the integrity of General Ledger accounting data including transaction processing and monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual close activities.  This includes maintaining complete and accurate information for audit and control testing processes for OTPPB and other administrative office entities and providing operational accounting support for other corporate divisions.

This role has primary responsibility for the Financial Accounting function within Corporate Accounting while supporting the Accounts Payable processes as needed.

Who you'll work with

The Senior Associate, Corporate Accounting will work closely with teams across Ontario Teachers’ to support month-end close and accounts payable activities, while building strong partnerships across Finance, Information Technology, business application teams, and third-party service providers.

What you'll do

• Execute period-end close activities including preparing journal entries, GL interface maintenance, and monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations

• Responsible for daily bank reconciliation process and funding for offshore administration funding

• Support external auditors for OTPPB and offshore administration entity audits by providing details and analysis of General Ledger balances

• Manage and maintain the General Ledger including Chart of Account, Cost Centre and Project hierarchies

• Support vendor payment process (including setup and update of vendor banking information) across global offices, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with tax rules and internal controls.

• Collaborate with external banking partners to troubleshoot payment issues and identify opportunities for process improvement.

• Lead or participate in special projects and process enhancements by providing the required technical and/or accounting specifications

What you'll need

• Relevant university degree

• CPA designation required

• Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP (IFRS and ASPE) applicable to investment companies. International GAAP knowledge an asset

• Practical understanding of accounting concepts

• General understanding of the Canadian pension plan environment and regulatory obligations is an asset

• Minimum five years of progressive experience in accounting and/or operational roles

• Strong attention to detail with ability to prioritize where applicable and maintain a high work standard.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and partner with key stakeholders inside and outside the Plan.

• Ability to work independently and with minimal guidance for standard operational decisions

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Power BI and strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint an asset

What we’re offering

The Base Salary range for this level is as follows:
$105,000 - $155,000.

Individual compensation and placement of this role in the range is based on different factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, demonstrated competencies, and internal equity as they relate to the role.
