Job Description
The TPS Strategy and Transformation Leader is responsible for spearheading the TPS strategy agenda. The leader will translate insights from external trends, competitive intelligence, and internal performance into long-range strategic choices and value pathways. Reporting directly to the TPS executive leader, this individual will serve as a strategic thought partner responsible for shaping growth priorities, transformation initiatives, investment decisions, and strategic execution across TPS. This individual acts as the primary partner in developing strategy, scenario planning, capital allocation, and enterprise prioritization, with transformation serving as the mechanism for executing strategic choices.
Key Responsibilities:
TPS Strategy Development and Cross-PMI Project Leadership
- Own and lead a portfolio of business-wide strategic projects requiring cross-PMI collaboration.
- Drive high-growth initiatives focused on increasing fee revenue and market share.
- Develop trusted partnerships with senior leaders and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with Business Insights to conduct market and sector scans, industry trend analysis, and external benchmarking to identify disruptive forces.
- Connect the dots across businesses to deliver optimal solutions to clients.
- Lead the development of executive-level strategy narratives, deliverables, and analyses in partnership with TPS and PMI leadership. Areas of focus will include long-term value creation, strategy reviews, capital allocation, investment priorities, risk, competitive threats, and restructuring needs.
- Develop clear, insight-driven strategy narratives for executive audience
- Translate complex strategic issues and analytical findings into concise recommendations that enable executive decision-making.
Strategic Planning and Commercial Excellence
- Lead annual and multi-year strategic planning activities, including Horizon 2 and Horizon 3 planning, to ensure alignment with enterprise and PMI priorities and capital-allocation parameters.
- Manage a portfolio of strategic bets, including divestitures, new-market entry, adjacencies, and business-model innovations.
- Identify growth opportunities across market expansion, customer segmentation, value-based pricing, new-product strategy, ecosystem partnerships, and line-of-business growth.
- Develop a repeatable product-commercialization framework that supports initiatives from incubation through launch.
- Partner with senior leaders to evaluate portfolio choices and translate long-range strategy into executable priorities.
Strategic Investments
- Collaborate with the PMI CAO organization, Enterprise Strategy, Finance, Corporate Development, and business leaders to develop M&A theses, diligence frameworks, and integration strategies.
- Assess build, buy, and partner options based on strategic fit and potential synergies, partnering with Finance.
- Represent TPS in strategic discussions involving potential M&A, partnership, and bolt-on opportunities.
- Ensure the TPS operating model supports strategic priorities through effective governance, clear decision rights, and measurable KPIs.
- Use OKRs selectively to translate strategy into measurable outcomes.
Executive Partnership and Strategic Influence
- Partner with senior leaders across TPS, PMI, Enterprise Strategy, Corporate Development, and Finance to shape growth priorities, strategic investments, and transformation initiatives.
- Influence decisions and move complex initiatives forward across organizational boundaries without relying on direct reporting authority.
- Develop and refine executive communications, strategic presentations, and recommendations for senior-leadership and governance forums.
- Coach and guide analysts and junior team members supporting strategic initiatives, whether or not they report directly to this position.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Twelve or more years of experience in corporate strategy, enterprise strategy, or management consulting, with experience supporting complex business and transformation agendas.
- Experience in financial services, banking, payments, fintech, or a closely related industry.
- Exceptional quantitative and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop executive-level narratives and communicate complex strategic recommendations clearly to senior leaders.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder-management, and influencing skills, including the ability to operate effectively without direct authority.
- Strong understanding of financial concepts, operating models, capital-allocation considerations, and industry and payments trends.
- Ability to organize and prioritize critical issues to support timely and effective decision-making.
- Experience coaching and developing junior talent, including team members who may not report directly to the position, while overseeing high-priority projects.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in corporate or enterprise strategy within a bank or other financial-services organization.
- Experience in a top-tier strategy-consulting environment.
- Experience applying data analysis to solve business problems in fast-paced environments.
- Cross-functional collaboration experience, including influencing stakeholders and working with diverse teams.
- Experience advising senior leaders on growth strategy, market entry, product launches, partnership evaluations, portfolio choices, and operating-model design.
- Experience applying structured problem-solving and design-thinking methods to strategic priorities.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and present data, including financial modeling and industry research, to senior executives.
- Experience developing strategic presentations and executive narratives for internal and external audiences.
- Experience monitoring industry trends and sharing relevant insights across teams.
- Experience collaborating across functions and businesses to deliver client-focused solutions.
- Experience shaping three- to five-year business strategies, defining growth opportunities, and identifying sources of competitive advantage.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Twelve or more years of experience in corporate strategy, enterprise strategy, or top-tier management consulting.
- A background combining strategy experience with knowledge of banking, financial services, or payments is strongly preferred.
- Experience from a leading strategy-consulting firm is highly valued.
- Proven experience in strategy formulation, market insights, portfolio strategy, and growth strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to lead significant strategic initiatives and manage senior stakeholders in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Ability to combine rigorous analysis with clear executive storytelling and practical execution.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $149,515.00 - $175,900.00
