The Systems Engineering Division (SED) offers unparalleled expertise in systems engineering to the U.S. government and various public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced development and application of space systems. From systems CONOPs and architecture development to system design and analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED leverages a vast array of engineering and business disciplines across a diverse and dynamic portfolio of space programs and national challenges spanning the total space system lifecycle.

The Ground Systems Engineering Department (GSED) transforms innovative ground system concepts into operational realities. As trusted leaders in ground systems engineering, we deliver operationally focused solutions for space enterprise C3 systems, mission management, PNT, SATCOM, launch operations, and SIGINT missions supporting Space Systems Command, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Intelligence Community. GSED leads ground systems and modernization efforts while leveraging deep technical experience and operational expertise to enable mission success across the space enterprise. We are seeking Ground Systems Engineer to provide focused, reliability and availability (Ao) analysis support.

The selected candidate will be required to work part-time (up to an average of 20 hours per week), on-site at our facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  This is a part-time casual position with limited hours.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Provide subject matter expertise on existing reliability models, previously developed for programs, to support ongoing sustainment analysis

- Perform and update Availability (Ao) analyses to support evaluation of potential system changes, including the addition of further critical spares

- Support analysis of potential configurations and options for the next delivery increment

- Provide technical continuity and institutional knowledge from acquisition into sustainment

- Document model updates, assumptions, and analytical results to support government decision-making on sustainment investments

- Act as senior technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or team leader while providing ad hoc technical consultation

- Mentor junior engineers and serve as role model

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Ground Systems Engineer - Retiree Casual:

- Advanced degree in engineering, science or mathematics

- Minimum 8 years or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments

- Retired Aerospace employee in good standing, eligible for rehire under the Retired Casual program

- Demonstrated experience in Availability (Ao) analysis for complex space or ground systems

- Prior experience supporting SBIRS, OPIR, or related space enterprise ground systems programs

- Familiarity with critical spares analysis and sustainment planning for fielded space systems

- Exhibits exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative

- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers

- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

- Direct prior experience supporting the transition of S2E2 from acquisition into sustainment

- Familiarity with the SBIRS delivery construct and future increment planning

- Experience supporting USSF sustainment organizations

- Experience with reliability modeling tools and techniques applicable to survivable/endurable space ground architectures
