Baptist Medical Center South is preparing to open a new 8-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Open Heart Surgery Program in Fall 2027 .
We are looking for experienced CVICU and critical-care Registered Nurses who want more than their next nursing position—we are looking for nurses who want to help us build a new program from the ground up .
As a founding member of the Baptist South CVICU team, you will have the opportunity to help establish the culture, clinical standards, workflows, teamwork, and expectations of our new unit before the first patient arrives.
Schedule
- Full-Time, 0.9 FTE
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
A Unique CVICU Training Opportunity
In preparation for the Fall 2027 opening, nurses selected for this team will complete their initial clinical training and immersion at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville before transitioning to Baptist Medical Center South. You will work alongside an established cardiovascular critical-care team and gain hands-on experience caring for complex cardiovascular and postoperative cardiac surgery patients. This dedicated clinical immersion is designed to strengthen your cardiovascular critical-care expertise and prepare you to return to Baptist South as a founding member of our new CVICU team.
As a CVICU Registered Nurse, You Will:
- Complete your initial clinical training and immersion at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville before transitioning to Baptist Medical Center South
- Provide highly specialized nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular and postoperative cardiac surgery patients
- Care for patients immediately following open-heart and cardiovascular procedures
- Perform comprehensive assessments and rapidly recognize changes in patient condition
- Monitor and interpret invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic data
- Manage vasoactive, inotropic, antiarrhythmic, and other high-risk critical-care medications
- Care for mechanically ventilated patients
- Manage arterial lines, central venous access, chest tubes, temporary pacing systems, and other invasive devices
- Participate in emergency response and advanced resuscitation
- Collaborate with cardiovascular surgeons, intensivists, advanced practice providers, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, nursing, and the interdisciplinary team
- Educate and support patients and families throughout the critical-care and surgical recovery experience
- Participate in simulation, specialty education, competency validation, quality improvement, and ongoing professional development
- Help establish the clinical practice and culture of Baptist South's new CVICU
Education – Required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program
Experience – Required
- Previous ICU/critical-care Registered Nurse experience
Experience – Strongly Preferred
- CVICU or Cardiovascular ICU experience
- Open-heart/postoperative cardiac surgery experience
- Cardiac critical-care experience
- Invasive hemodynamic monitoring
- Vasoactive and inotropic infusion management
- Mechanical ventilation
- Temporary pacing and chest tube management
Licenses & Certifications – Required
- Current Registered Nurse license
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Preferred
- Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse ( CCRN )
- Relevant cardiovascular or critical-care specialty certification
- Experience with advanced mechanical circulatory support therapies
