Ready to Take Your Nursing Career Into Critical Care?

Baptist Medical Center South is preparing to open a new 8-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and Open Heart Surgery Program in Fall 2027 .

We are looking for motivated Registered Nurses who are ready to take the next step in their careers and develop the knowledge and skills needed to become cardiovascular critical-care nurses.

You don't have to already be an ICU nurse. We will give you a pathway to become one.

This opportunity is designed for experienced acute-care nurses who are new to ICU nursing and ready for an intensive, structured clinical-development pathway.

Ideal candidates may have experience in:

- Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Cardiac/Telemetry
- Step-Down
- Medical-Surgical
- Other acute-care nursing specialties

Your Pathway to CVICU

Nurses selected for this program will:

- Begin their critical-care development through Baptist Health's ICU Intensive Program
- Complete clinical training and immersion at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville
- Train alongside experienced ICU and CVICU nurses
- Develop advanced critical-care and cardiovascular nursing competencies
- Transition to Baptist Medical Center South as a founding member of our new CVICU team in preparation for the Fall 2027 opening

ICU Intensive cohorts begin in January and May .

What You Will Learn

Your education and clinical development will include:

- Critical-care nursing foundations
- Assessment and management of the critically ill patient
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Recognition and management of patient deterioration
- Invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring
- Vasoactive and inotropic medication management
- Mechanical ventilation
- Arterial and central venous lines
- Chest tube management
- Temporary pacing
- Emergency response and resuscitation
- Postoperative cardiovascular surgery care
- Simulation and scenario-based education
- CVICU-specific competency validation

Schedule

- Full-Time, 0.9 FTE
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM

Education – Required

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program

Experience

Preferred:

- Acute-care hospital nursing experience
- ED, PCU, Cardiac/Telemetry, Step-Down, or Medical-Surgical experience

Previous ICU experience is not required.

Licenses & Certifications – Required

- Current Registered Nurse license
- Basic Life Support ( BLS )

ACLS must be obtained within the timeframe established by the ICU Intensive/CVICU Development Program.
