Position Summary: South County Academy serves adolescent females ages 13–18 with complex educational, behavioral, and therapeutic needs. Our students live on campus and often come to us following previous placements through DCYF. They benefit from a highly structured, trauma-informed environment focused on healing, growth, and individualized support. The Clinician
works collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability and wellness of students in our care that have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. Responsible for providing diagnostic assessments and individual, group, and family counseling services for students. Collaborates on cases with behavioral specialists, teachers and other service providers to ensure appropriate delivery of services to youth and families. Provides emergency crisis intervention/assessment as needed and supports direct service staff in the implementation of evidence-based treatments such as Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) throughout the milieu.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participates and administrates students and familys initial assessments
- Completes treatment plans and provides ongoing treatment to students and families using a trauma informed, collaborative, and strength-based approach
- Provides clinical treatment using a variety of treatment modalities, including Trauma Systems Therapy and DBT
- Facilitates clinical groups
- Facilitates family therapy and meets with caregivers at the school, community and in their homes
- Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team surrounding the youth with natural supports and coordination of care both internally and externally to ensure youth is meeting their individual goals
- Evaluates treatment progress on an ongoing basis.
- Provides emergency crisis intervention services with, and on behalf of, students and families as needed
- Support the direct care staff such as behavioral specialists and teachers to implement skills from clinical treatments
- Work as part of a team to support the overall functioning of the program and ensure that all Policies and Procedures are followed
- Encourage positive environment and behavioral support by utilizing a restorative justice framework and principles
- Become trained, competent and able to perform emergency de-escalation and support strategies when applicable
- Teach client/family self-advocacy skills
- Build and maintain positive, working relationships with community organizations and service providers
- Maintain confidentiality of client/family
- Transport client and family as needed
- Provide sensitivity to client/family cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues and diversity
- Serve as a positive role model to client and colleagues
- Complete all professional and administrative documentation and forms in accordance with agency standards and within established guidelines and timeframes
- Maintains compliance with FSRI policies, including those relating to HIPAA and all state and federal agencies, including DCYF
- Proficient in using an electronic health record as well as project-specific software
- Participates in all meetings as required by the team, supervisors and that are necessary for the role both internally and externally
- Attend and participate in all required program and agency trainings
- Provide on-call coverage/support in conjunction with other members of the clinical team.
- Approaches all work through a trauma and diversity and inclusion lens
- Performs additional responsibilities consistent with Agency needs, defined in consultation with supervisor(s)
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in human services (psychology, social work, marriage/family, etc.) required
- Required to be eligible to be licensed in Rhode Island as a Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist or Mental Health Counselor
- Proficiency in professional writing
- Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
- Spanish Speaking preferred and is compensated
- Flexible schedule with some evenings
- Ability to work independently and part of a team
Physical Requirements: This position requires residential and community visits, employees in this position must have the ability to:
- Current drivers license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Travel to and from clients residence, community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs
- Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed
- Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
