## About the role
Engineering & Maintenance Manager
Position Summary
The Engineering & Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance, engineering, reliability, and capital improvement activities at the site. This role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and facilities while driving continuous improvement initiatives that support productivity, quality, cost, and customer service goals.
The successful candidate will provide strategic and hands-on leadership to the maintenance team, manage engineering projects, improve asset reliability, and partner cross-functionally to optimize manufacturing performance.
## Key responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Compliance & Food Safety
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all company, regulatory, environmental, and food safety requirements.
- Drive safe work practices, contractor safety management, and maintenance compliance programs.
- Ensure all engineering and maintenance activities meet applicable regulations and company standards.
Maintenance & Reliability Leadership
- Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and operational reliability.
- Develop and execute maintenance strategies that reduce downtime, improve asset utilization, and extend equipment life.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement actions to improve maintenance performance.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions for equipment and process failures.
Engineering & Capital Projects
- Lead site engineering initiatives, including equipment upgrades, automation projects, process improvements, and infrastructure enhancements.
- Manage capital projects from concept development through installation, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Collaborate with corporate engineering, operations, quality, and finance teams to prioritize investments and improve manufacturing capabilities.
- Support the design, specification, and implementation of new equipment and technologies.
People Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, develop, and engage maintenance and technical teams to achieve operational objectives.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability while fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Identify technical skill gaps and develop training and succession plans.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production teams to improve plant performance and reduce operational losses.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, TPM, reliability-centered maintenance, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance equipment performance.
Budget & Asset Management
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets, capital expenditures, and operating costs.
- Oversee spare parts inventory and optimize inventory levels to balance cost and equipment availability.
- Ensure effective planning and utilization of maintenance resources and external contractors.
Systems & Documentation
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, engineering documentation, equipment histories, and regulatory compliance records.
- Drive effective use of CMMS systems to support work planning, asset management, and reporting.
- Ensure maintenance procedures and technical documentation remain current and standardized.
## Qualifications and skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in maintenance, engineering, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience leading maintenance and reliability programs in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing capital projects and equipment installations.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical (PLC), automation, and process systems.
- Experience leading teams, coaching employees, and driving accountability.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with CMMS systems and maintenance performance metrics.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Food, beverage, ingredients, chemical, pharmaceutical, or consumer packaged goods manufacturing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience with PLCs, automation systems, process controls, and industrial networking.
- Experience with SAP PM or other enterprise maintenance management systems.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, or Reliability certifications.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or comparable project management experience.
The pay range for this position is $102,000 - $168,250 in Annual Salary. Kerry typically does not hire an individual at the top or near the top of the range, as we are a pay-for-performance company, and this range is set to continue to reward performance annually while in role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate within the above range may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition, this position is also eligible to earn a performance-based incentive compensation.
