Job Overview

Hubbell's location in Boonton, NJ is looking for a Production Supervisor to join their team! This role will lead the day-to-day management of a designated manufacturing area consisting of production assembly, test, inventory and material flow activities. The Production Supervisor serves as the operational leader of the assigned production value stream and is accountable for labor utilization, production schedule attainment, inventory accuracy, SAP transaction integrity, shortage resolution, shipping performance and continuous improvement activities. The position works closely with Planning, Materials, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing engineering, Customer Service and Purchasing to ensure customer commitments are achieved while maintaining efficient manufacturing operations.

A Day In The Life

- Provide direct leadership and supervision for production employees and team leads.

- Maintain a safe, organized and productive work environment.

- Conduct employee coaching, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions when required.

- Develop employee skills, cross-training plans and succession planning programs.

- Promote accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement throughout the production area.

- Direct daily manufacturing activities to meet committed production schedule.

- Manage labor allocation and production priorities to maximize throughput.

- Monitor schedule attainment and implement recovery plans when production falls behind schedule.

- Coordinate activities between assembly, test, inspection and shipping functions.

- Conduct daily production meetings to review priorities, shortages and performance metrics.

- Ensure on-time completion of production orders and customer deliveries.

- Review production schedules and material availability daily.

- Identify missing parts, shortages and material constraints and drive resolution with Materials, Planning and Purchasing.

- Maximize labor utilization and factory output by executing partial builds, alternative work assignments and schedule adjustments while shortages are being resolved.

- Prioritize production work orders based on customer delivery requirements.

- Monitor WIP levels and ensure proper flow of material through the manufacturing process.

- Coordinate with Planning to align production capacity with demand requirements.

- Participate in weekly production planning and S&OP review meetings, providing capacity assessments, identifying risks to schedule attainment, and committing to achievable production schedules.

- Ensure inventory accuracy through proper material handling and transaction discipline.

- Monitor and resolve SAP production order issues, material discrepancies and transaction errors.

- Lead timely review and closure of COGI exceptions.

- Ensure accurate completion of material issues, confirmations, completions and inventory movements within SAP.

- Investigate inventory variances and coordinate corrective actions.

- Support cycle counts activities and physical inventories.

- Ensure Bills of Material (BOMs), routings and production documentation are accurate and report discrepancies.

- Ensure products are manufactured and tested in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.

- Drive corrective and preventive actions to reduce defects and improve first-pass yield.

- Monitor production quality metrics and implement improvement plans.

- Support customer audits, ISO audits and corrective action investigations.

- Promote a culture of quality ownership throughout the production team.

- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and cost performance.

- Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives and waste reduction activities.

- Monitor labor efficiency and implement actions to improve utilization.

- Develop and maintain standard work processes.

- Participate in process improvement and new product introduction activities.

- Work closely with Engineering on manufacturability and process improvements.

- Support implementation of ECOs and engineering changes.

- Coordinate customer priorities with Customer Service and Planning.

- Partner with Materials and Purchasing to eliminate material shortages.

- Support shipping activities to ensure customer commitments are met.

What will help you thrive in this role?

- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Operations Management or equivalent experience.

- Minimum 5 years manufacturing leadership experience.

- Experience supervising production teams in a high-mix manufacturing environment.

- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems.

- Experience with SAP production transactions, inventory management and COGI processes.

- Knowledge of production planning, scheduling and material management.

- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and manufacturing reporting systems.

Preferred

- Electronics and electro-mechanical assembly experience.

- SAP ERP experience.

- ISO manufacturing environment experience.

- APICS/CPIM certification or equivalent production planning experience.
