Job Title: Paramedic

Positions: Full-time

Location: Greenville

Summary Provides basic and advanced pre-hospital emergency care to the sick and injured and transports emergency and non-emergency patients safely and efficiently to appropriate medical facilities. The paramedic evaluates the patient and relays pertinent information to the appropriate medical facilities and may be required to implement appropriate medical intervention from medical command physician orders. The paramedic works closely with the EMT and other paramedics in providing effective and efficient patient care in accordance with established protocols and by performing the following duties.

Personnel Guided Assists with the supervision, training and direction of new paramedics, EMT's, EMS students and other outside agency personnel as directed.

Equipment All ALS and BLS equipment including: backboards, splints, oxygen equipment, radios, ambulance, and wheelchair vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The Paramedic is fully responsible for all actions as a certified Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic and is accountable for the quality of emergency and non-emergency medical care delivered. In delivering pre-hospital emergency care, the Paramedic performs all techniques of basic and advanced life support, provides specified field treatment for medical emergencies, and transports patients to the appropriate medical facility. This includes ambulance, wheelchair and medical van. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Conducts patient assessments to assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed, or need for additional assistance, and provides basic life support to all patients, adhering to established protocols and procedures.

Maintains up to date knowledge and clinical skills on treatment techniques, protocol changes, and application of new drugs, material, and equipment.

Attends continuing education on a regular basis.

Attends a minimum of 18 hours of continuing education every year, meeting current state requirements.

Diplomatically and professionally interacts with fire, police, other agencies, healthcare personnel and the public, including friends and relatives of patients

Maintains a professional appearance and attitude at all times

Guides and assists with the training of E.M.S. personnel and other outside agencies as directed.

Checks, maintains, safely operates and replaces all ALS/BLS equipment and vehicles as assigned.

Replaces any missing, used or damaged equipment at the earliest opportunity.

Maintains the cleanliness of all assigned equipment.

Accounts for all equipment at the end of each shift.

Operates all equipment following appropriate guidelines.

Regularly participates in shift meetings and group discussions.

Performs other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations.

Works overtime as necessary as outlined in the Operations Manual.

Monitors the status of the patient.

Administers initial treatment at emergency scene. Assesses and records patient's vital signs.

Assists in extricating trapped victims and transports sick and injured persons to medical facilities.

Observes, records, and reports to medical facility the patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.

Drives emergency vehicles to emergency scene and to receiving medical facility. Frequently must be able to drive or ride for up to four hours.

Communicates professionally with hospital, physician, other medical personnel and communication personnel in person and by radio-telephone.

Prepares required reports and maintains records of activities in a timely and accurate manner, by following the established format as required by the Commonwealth and the organization.

Identifies and reports operational problems and safety concerns.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

The employee must have completed an approved course of study and be currently certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and have demonstrated competency in all required skills. The employee must possess current certification in BLS-CPR. The employee must possess current American Heart Association certification/recognition in ACLS. The employee must have medical command authorization from Emergy Care's Medical Director. The employee must hold a valid Driver's License and must have successfully completed the Emergency Vehicles Operators Course.

Other Qualifications

Must be able to drive a minimum of 4 hrs per shift.
