About this role
The Rural Health Director provides strategic and operational leadership for Rural Health Transformation grants and related initiatives. This role oversees grant administration, workplans, budgets, subcontracts, community planning and performance monitoring while partnering with organizational leaders and community stakeholders to develop sustainable programs that improve rural health access and outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership, direction and accountability for Rural Health Transformation grants, projects and associated deliverables.
- Lead grant administration, including workplan development and management, grant reporting, budget oversight, compliance and documentation.
- Monitor grant performance and ensure the timely completion of milestones, deliverables, reporting obligations and corrective actions.
- Manage the overall project budget in partnership with Finance and organizational leadership; monitor spending, forecasts and funding risks.
- Develop, negotiate and monitor subcontracts, including scope and workplan development, deliverable tracking, performance management and budget oversight.
- Co-lead community-based planning efforts, including the development, facilitation and ongoing support of community advisory boards and planning committees.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership, clinical and operational teams, community partners and other stakeholders to design and implement rural health programs and interventions.
- Formalize project governance, implementation plans, decision-making processes, reporting structures and accountability mechanisms.
- Build and support strategic partnerships needed to achieve grant objectives and strengthen rural health infrastructure.
- Identify project risks, barriers and dependencies; develop mitigation plans and escalate issues appropriately.
- Prepare clear program updates, presentations, reports and recommendations for senior leadership, funders and community stakeholders.
- Ensure grant activities align with organizational priorities, applicable requirements and approved program objectives.
- Supervise or provide functional leadership to assigned project staff, consultants and contracted partners, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned to advance rural health transformation priorities.
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, healthcare administration, business administration, public administration, project management or a related field required.
- Master’s degree in public health, healthcare administration or a related field preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Progressive experience in public health, community health, healthcare program administration, project management, grants management or community engagement required.
- Experience managing complex workplans, budgets, deliverables, subcontracts and cross-functional initiatives strongly preferred.
- Experience facilitating community planning processes and working with diverse stakeholders preferred.
- Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of grant administration, project management, budget monitoring, performance measurement and program implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to translate strategic goals into actionable workplans, timelines, deliverables and accountability structures.
- Excellent leadership, facilitation, negotiation, communication, presentation and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to analyze program and financial information, identify risks and develop practical solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives, deadlines and stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project, data or reporting tools used to manage complex initiatives.
Travel and Schedule Requirements
- Ability to travel to organizational and community partner locations as required.
- Ability to participate in meetings and events that may occur outside standard business hours based on project needs.

Salary Range: $94,166.80-$110,372.08
