Animal Services Officer I Salary:

32.09 - 50.45 Hourly

Your Impact

- Investigate animal related crimes, write reports, book evidence. Initiate appropriate corrective action.
- Conduct inspections and respond to calls and complaints.
- Issue warning and citations to enforce state and local laws.
- Educate citizens about the laws and regulations.
- Collect sick or injured wildlife and impound the animals.
- Clean and maintain the animal control vehicle and cages utilized to transport animals.

Minimum Qualifications

- Equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Two years’ experience in public safety activities, community service or in the caring and handling of animals, OR one year experience working in the field as an animal control officer, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
- 832 P.C. certification preferred.

- Experience in an animal handling environment. Understands the signals of behavior and animal handling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service focus and understands and upholds the core values of the Irvine Police Department.
- Experience as an Animal Services Officer is desirable.
- Investigations and trial experience is ideal.

The  Public Safety Department  is a full-service public safety agency that provides several special program areas including Emergency Management, Crime Prevention, DARE, School Resource Officer, K-9s, Traffic Enforcement, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, General Investigation, Crime Scene Investigation, Special Investigation (vice & narcotics), and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). Irvine is committed to a full community-oriented policing concept that interfaces closely with all segments of the community.

The Process
The selection process will include an expedited oral examination process, and background investigation prior to appointment.  All applicants must be able to pass the Public Safety background check  process. This includes, but is not limited to, the review of legal documents, police and driving records, credit profile, motor vehicle insurance, vehicle operation, prior employment records, and performance reviews.
