Outside Sales – Electrical Testing & Services

Position Summary
Outside Sales is responsible for developing and growing customer relationships with a primary focus on electrical acceptance testing, maintenance testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance services . This position will actively develop new customers, expand existing accounts, and execute territory strategies that drive profitable service revenue and build RESA Powers local testing and services business.

The role will serve as a technical commercial resource to customers, helping identify electrical reliability, safety, maintenance, and lifecycle needs while leveraging RESA Powers broader capabilities in switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, engineering, and power distribution equipment .

Responsibilities

- Grow the customer base and achieve or exceed monthly and annual sales goals within the assigned territory, with a primary focus on electrical testing and maintenance services.

- Actively prospect and develop new customers through outbound business development, project tracking, contractor relationships, referrals, industry networking, and targeted account development.

- Build and grow RESA Powers local electrical testing and services business by identifying new markets, customers, projects, and recurring service opportunities.

- Develop new business and expand existing relationships across industrial, commercial, utility, data center, healthcare, manufacturing, and other mission-critical facilities.

- Cultivate and maintain relationships with electrical contractors, EPCs, general contractors, engineering firms, end users, utilities, and project owners through regular customer visits, site walks, and proactive account development.

- Build relationships with electrical contractors, EPCs, general contractors, engineering firms, and project owners to identify acceptance testing, commissioning, startup, and new-construction opportunities early in the project lifecycle .

- Develop relationships with facility owners and operators to identify recurring maintenance testing, preventive maintenance, planned outage, and turnaround opportunities .

- Identify, develop, quote, and close opportunities for acceptance testing, maintenance testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance, including:

- Low- and medium-voltage switchgear testing

- Circuit breaker testing and maintenance

- Transformer testing and maintenance

- Protective relay testing

- Cable testing

- Grounding system testing

- Infrared inspections

- Electrical system commissioning and startup support

- Electrical preventive maintenance programs

- Planned outage and turnaround support

- Other electrical testing and reliability services

- Understand customer maintenance cycles, outage schedules, equipment condition, and reliability requirements to develop recurring service opportunities and long-term account plans.

- Perform customer site visits and job walks to understand electrical infrastructure, equipment, project requirements, outage constraints, and scope requirements necessary to develop accurate and profitable proposals.

- Review customer specifications, one-line diagrams, equipment information, and maintenance requirements to help define testing and service scopes.

- Apply knowledge of industry standards and best practices, including ANSI/NETA ATS, ANSI/NETA MTS, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, NEC, and OSHA requirements , when developing customer solutions.

- Work closely with estimating, operations, field service, engineering, and technical teams to develop scopes of work, pricing, schedules, and customer solutions.

- Serve as the commercial point of contact throughout the sales process and ensure an effective transition from opportunity development through project execution.

- Identify opportunities to expand customer relationships beyond testing and maintenance through RESA Powers broader electrical infrastructure lifecycle capabilities.

- Develop cross-sell opportunities involving switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, engineering, and related power distribution equipment and services , including:

- Breaker repair, rebuild, retrofit, and replacement

- Switchgear repair, modernization, and replacement

- Transformer testing, repair, maintenance, and replacement

- Engineering and power system studies

- Equipment upgrades and modernization

- Remanufactured and reconditioned electrical equipment

- Replacement equipment and lifecycle solutions

- Leverage testing results, equipment condition, customer maintenance programs, and lifecycle requirements to identify additional equipment, engineering, and service opportunities.

- Develop and execute a territory sales strategy in conjunction with sales leadership and local business unit leaders.

- Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline through prospecting, account planning, customer visits, referrals, project tracking, and targeted business development.

- Develop strategic account plans for key customers that identify current opportunities, future projects, recurring maintenance needs, and potential cross-sell opportunities.

- Maintain accurate opportunity, activity, account, pipeline, and forecasting information within the company CRM.

- Develop relationships across RESA Power locations and business units to provide customers with broader technical capabilities and geographic coverage.

- Maintain strong relationships with vendors, internal technical resources, and strategic partners to deliver appropriate technical and commercial solutions.

- Participate in sales planning, budgeting, forecasting, customer events, industry associations, and trade shows.

- Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, and scope changes while maintaining appropriate margin discipline.

- Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

- Bachelors degree in a related field preferred; minimum five years of relevant electrical industry, technical sales, field service, or business development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrated understanding of electrical acceptance testing, maintenance testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance services .

- Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and equipment, including switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, protective relays, cables, and associated equipment.

- Familiarity with applicable electrical testing and safety standards, including ANSI/NETA ATS, ANSI/NETA MTS, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, NEC, and OSHA .

- Experience with low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment required; high-voltage experience is a plus.

- Ability to review one-line diagrams, equipment information, customer specifications, and maintenance requirements to identify service opportunities.

- Proven ability to prospect, develop new accounts, create opportunities, build customer relationships, prepare technical-commercial solutions, and close sales .

- Demonstrated ability to build a territory and generate new business rather than relying solely on existing accounts or inbound opportunities.

- Experience developing business with electrical contractors, EPCs, engineering firms, facility owners, and end users preferred.

- Experience selling into industrial, commercial, utility, data center, healthcare, manufacturing, or other mission-critical markets preferred.

- Ability to identify additional equipment, engineering, and service opportunities resulting from electrical testing and maintenance activities.

- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to translate customer electrical requirements into practical service solutions.

- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and account-management skills.

- Demonstrated ability to develop new accounts while expanding revenue within existing customers.

- Ability to collaborate effectively with field technicians, technical specialists, estimators, engineers, operations leaders, and other internal resources.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience utilizing CRM systems preferr

Additional Information:

Job: Full-Time

Location: Buffalo, NY

Travel: Up to 40% travel.

Relocation: Relocation assistance not available.

Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 , plus uncapped commission. Final compensation will be based on experience, skills, and overall fit
