Queen Margaret's School (QMS) is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative Culinary World Tour Teacher to join our Senior School faculty in a full-time (1.0 FTE) position.
The Culinary World Tour program introduces students in Grades 10–12 to essential culinary skills, food preparation techniques, and the rich history and traditions of food from around the world. Through hands-on experiences, students are encouraged to explore diverse cuisines, develop innovative ideas, and deepen their understanding of the connections between food, culture, community, and sustainability.
The successful candidate will bring a passion for culinary education, an appreciation for cultural diversity, and a commitment to creating engaging, experiential learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Culinary World Tour instruction for students in Grades 10–12, including:
Safe food handling, kitchen sanitation, and food preparation
- Cooking techniques and culinary fundamentals
- Food sustainability and responsible sourcing
- Local and international cuisines
- The history of food and global culinary traditions
- Develop hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage creativity, collaboration, and cultural exploration.
- Oversee and support a student-run café or snack bar, incorporating practical culinary and entrepreneurial skills.
- Create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning styles, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Use varied assessment strategies to monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular learning opportunities.
- Participate actively in school events, meetings, professional development, and co-curricular programming.
- Model the school's core values and contribute positively to the broader QMS community.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Valid British Columbia teaching certificate or eligibility for certification through the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care's Teacher Regulation Branch.
- Experience teaching culinary arts, food studies, or related subjects to adolescents.
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, kitchen safety, and food preparation.
- Knowledge of international cuisines, culinary traditions, and the cultural significance of food.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging, experiential, and student-centred learning opportunities.
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive educational practices.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and respond effectively to diverse student needs.
- Demonstrated ability to establish a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning and collaboration.
- Willingness to contribute to the co-curricular life and community of an independent school.
Preferred Qualifications and Assets
- Formal education, training, or professional experience in culinary arts.
- Experience teaching world cuisines, food history, and global culinary traditions.
- Experience with intercultural collaboration and community engagement, particularly within the Cowichan Valley.
- Experience with inquiry-based, project-based, Socratic, or Harkness teaching approaches.
- Experience working in independent or boarding school environments.
- Mandarin language proficiency to support communication with multilingual learners.
- International travel or cross-cultural experience.
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and global citizenship.
- Standard First Aid certification or higher.
