Job Title: IT Business Systems Analyst MRO, Service & Asset Management Job Description
The IT Business Systems Analyst serves as a strategic liaison between business functions and IT, focusing on maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), service management, inventory and warehouse management, and asset maintenance operations. Working with minimal supervision, this role designs, optimizes, and supports the implementation of business processes and enterprise IT solutions across the maintenance lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings deep, hands-on experience in maintenance and service operations and understands how these processes are enabled through ERP and related enterprise applications.
Responsibilities
- Understand the full landscape of applications that support assigned business functions and departments, and how they interact across the maintenance lifecycle.
- Analyze business requests across the four pillars of business analysis, evaluating their validity, alignment with existing processes and systems, business criticality, estimated return on investment, and best-practice solution options.
- Author clear and accurate as-is business process diagrams, such as swimlane flows, to interpret business process requirements and IT change requests.
- Apply a strong understanding of end-to-end MRO and maintenance processes, including work identification and intake, work planning and scheduling, preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection and repair, work execution and closure, asset and component tracking, parts and materials coordination, labor and resource management, and maintenance history and records management.
- Develop solution proposal documents in multiple formats, including presentations, spreadsheets, written narratives, and to-be process diagrams, while considering cost, feasibility, level of effort, and compliance requirements.
- Create detailed functional specification documents for technical development teams to ensure accurate and efficient solution delivery.
- Perform unit testing and functional acceptance testing of solutions developed by functional analysts and technical development teams to verify alignment with requirements.
- Coordinate and facilitate user acceptance testing of application changes, ensuring stakeholders validate and approve solutions before deployment to production.
- Understand standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and be willing to learn and operate within specific SDLC and application change request/approval workflows using systems such as ServiceNow.
- Apply a high-level understanding of IT project management frameworks, including waterfall and agile, and manage small to mid-size IT projects with guidance from leadership, business operations, the project management office, and IT finance.
- Learn and apply system configuration concepts and behaviors across various applications, such as SAP, Ramco, ServiceNow, and similar SaaS systems.
- Differentiate between valid and invalid business requirements, and facilitate refining and shaping invalid requirements into clear, implementable solutions.
- Perform technical administration of applications to support both front-end and back-end functions, ensuring reliable and efficient system operations.
- Stay current on information systems and technology trends and recommend appropriate options that balance short-, mid-, and long-term benefits and trade-offs.
- Observe all applicable laws, regulations, and obligations when conducting business, and consistently work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Undertake additional functions and duties as assigned to support evolving business and IT needs.
- Travel between campuses as needed, with an estimated travel requirement of approximately 10%20%, primarily within the San Diego area.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in information technology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience in lieu of formal education.
- Approximately fifteen or more years of progressive professional experience in business systems analysis.
- At least 10 years of general IT business analysis experience in engineering, manufacturing, and distribution environments.
- Extensive experience with mid-to-large scale ERP systems, preferably SAP, including configuration and support for MRO, service management, inventory, warehouse, and asset maintenance processes.
- Experience with service management platforms, preferably ServiceNow, supporting IT operations and service processes.
- Strong industry knowledge and IT experience in MRO, service management, inventory and warehouse management, and asset maintenance processes and solutions.
- Ability to author business process diagrams, solution proposals, and functional specifications with high attention to detail and clarity.
- Proficiency in unit testing, functional acceptance testing, and coordinating user acceptance testing for application changes.
- Understanding of standard SDLC methodologies and general IT project management frameworks such as waterfall and agile.
- Capability to perform technical application administration for both front-end and back-end functions.
- Detail-oriented, process-driven mindset with a strong customer focus and the ability to work professionally in a team environment.
- Willingness to take initiative, learn from mistakes, and continuously improve processes and solutions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Interest or experience using AI tools and techniques in the workplace is highly desirable.
- 5 or more years of experience in service management systems such as ServiceNow is a plus.
- 3 or more years of experience configuring MRO systems, such as Ramco, or other custom applications and related development experience is a plus.
- 3 or more years of experience configuring various SaaS applications is a plus.
- 5 or more years of IT business analysis experience within the aerospace and defense industry is a plus.
- 3 or more years of project management experience, including managing small to mid-size IT initiatives, is a plus.
- 3 or more years of technical application administration experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership potential in IT project management, resource management, and value stream customer relationship management is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and process concepts into clear, actionable guidance for business stakeholders and technical teams.
Work Environment
This role operates within a dynamic, enterprise IT environment that supports engineering, manufacturing, distribution, and maintenance operations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including business operations, IT, project management, and finance, to design and optimize solutions across ERP, service management, and specialized MRO systems. Core technologies include SAP for ERP, ServiceNow for service and change management, Ramco and other custom applications for MRO, and various SaaS platforms with configurable settings. Work is primarily performed on campus with standard business hours, with occasional travel of approximately 10%20%, mostly between San Diego facilities. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $175000.00 - $185000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
