About this role
Key Responsibilities
Experimental Research & Laboratory Work
- Design, plan, and execute laboratory-scale experiments supporting technology development, including catalyst preparation, testing, and characterization.
- Operate and maintain bench-scale reactor systems and associated analytical equipment; ensure robust, reproducible, and well-documented experimental results.
- Develop data collection protocols, analyze experimental datasets, and prepare technical reports for internal review.
Technology Development Support
- Support the progression of technology along the TRL ladder, from bench concepts toward pilot-scale demonstrations.
- Conduct literature reviews and technology scouting to inform experimental design and identify innovation opportunities in catalysis, scale-up, and process engineering.
- Contribute to the identification and documentation of patentable inventions in cooperation with the IP team.
Collaboration & Team Support
- Collaborate with fellow researchers, engineers, and technicians within the research team, contributing to a safety-first lab culture.
- Support pilot and first-of-a-kind plant activities with technical expertise across the project lifecycle — from site identification through commissioning.
- Provide technical input for tender documentation, evaluate bids, and support contract negotiation by providing technical and commercial aspects to contractor agreements, where relevant.
Communication & Reporting
- Prepare clear, decision-ready technical reports, data summaries, and presentations for internal leadership and external partners.
- Present research findings at internal meetings
Required Qualifications & Experience (3–6 years of experience)
- Master's degree or PhD (or equivalent) in chemical engineering, catalysis, energy/process engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline, with research experience in fuel synthesis.
- Hands-on experimental expertise in one or more of - heterogeneous catalysis, reactor engineering, or biofuel related unit operations.
- Data analysis skills including experience with experimental design, statistical analysis, and relevant software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Aspen, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with the biofuel value chain including renewable hydrogen production and downstream synthesis routes.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to document experimental findings clearly and collaborate within cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability and a growth mindset, with a genuine interest in advancing sustainable fuel technologies.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Prior experience in pilot-scale operation or scale-up activities.
- Publication record in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings in the energy/catalysis field.
- Experience with process simulation, techno-economic analysis, or LCA (life-cycle assessment)
