OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

- Maintain good working knowledge of Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I 282), Mineral and Mining (Explosives) Regulations 2012 (L.I 2177), relevant procedures and best practices to achieve safe targets.

- Support the delivery of required mine production quality and volumes through safe blasting activities and collaboration with Mining peers and the Contractor.

- Report directly and provide back-up support to sectional Shiftbosses.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.

- Report all incidents to the Shiftboss for corrective actions to be taken and complete assigned corrective actions on time.

- Comply fully with set OHS KPIs, AGAG Environmental Management requirements, legal requirements, operating procedures and environmental rules.

- Take action to prevent environmental pollution and correct or report observed environmental deviations, practices and conditions, while making suggestions to improve environmental management.

- Implement the necessary production processes and practices in achieving safe targets.

- Use explosives in accordance with the explosive management procedure during development ends and production hole blasting operations.

- Handle and transport explosive material safely in accordance with Mineral and Mining (Explosives) Regulations 2012 (L.I 2177).

- Provide accurate production and service data through daily, weekly and monthly reporting to support quarterly updates of the rolling 18-month plan.

- Ensure all statutory requirements associated with mining operations are followed in compliance with Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I 282) and Mineral and Mining (Explosives) Regulations 2012 (L.I 2177).

- Work within the annual production cost centre budget to achieve annual, medium-term and life of mine business plan targets.

- Ensure material usage is as per plan and prevent wastage.

- Use provided resources and expertise to develop team members to capably and consistently deliver annual targets according to their role and level of authority.

- Liaise with the Shiftboss to optimize blasting practices.

- Drive implementation of projects and sustain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the production team.

- Demonstrate full understanding of charge plans and development layouts.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

- MSLC/SSCE or 2 years working experience as a Blastman.

- Underground Blastman’s Certificate of Competency (MINCOM).

- Valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes); ability to drive underground is a plus.

Experience

- Two (2) to Five (5) years' operational experience within underground mining.

- Previous experience working in hard rock underground mines.

- International underground mining experience.

Knowledge & Skills

- Knowledge of underground development and production charging and blasting.

- Sound mechanical knowledge of both the Normet and Hypercharge Unit.

- Strong focus on safety and hazard identification.

- Flexible and willing to assist with varied tasks and responsibilities.

- Physically fit and able to pass pre-employment and medical examinations or screening.

- Excellent communication skills.
