About this role

Ever wondered what actually happens under the hood when a system writes data to a disk, or how Linux manages massive storage arrays without breaking a sweat? The Red Hat Platform Storage Team in Brno is looking for a curious intern to dive deep into the internals of RHEL and Fedora. You won't be fetching coffee or running dummy tests; you will write C and Python, maintain continuous integration (CI) pipelines, and push real code to upstream open-source communities. This long-term internship is a hands-on masterclass in how enterprise Linux distributions are built, maintained, and delivered to millions of users worldwide.

At Red Hat, you’ll work in an environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, values great ideas, and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully. Freedom and courage are two of our core values — which means you’ll have the space to take risks, explore the unknown, and grow your strengths. But being a Red Hatter is not just about bravery; it’s also about commitment and follow-through.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid, part-time internship based in the Brno office, with flexible working hours. The expected start date is February 2027.

What you will do:

- Hack on Core Storage Tools: Write, maintain, and refactor open-source storage management frameworks using Python and C.
- Keep the Pipeline Green: Manage and improve our CI infrastructure to catch bugs before they ever touch a release.
- Contribute Upstream: Submit patches, participate in code reviews, and collaborate directly with global Linux open-source communities.
- Master System Internals: Learn how the Linux storage stack, kernel interfaces, and distribution builds operate behind the scenes with mentorship from senior engineers.

What you will bring:

- You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Czech Republic during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us part-time from February 2027 till January 2028
- Working knowledge of written and spoken English
- Practical experience with Python, a working foundation in C, and comfort writing basic shell scripts.
- Daily comfort using Linux (Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, Arch, etc.) and a genuine curiosity about OS internals.
- Familiarity with Git, command-line environments, or basic CI concepts (even from course assignments or side projects).
- Bonus Points: Previous open-source contributions, personal coding projects on GitHub/GitLab, or bug reports submitted to community projects.

Due to the limited number of internship opportunities and the high volume of applications, we may not be able to speak with every candidate. To maximize your chances of moving forward in the process, please ensure your CV clearly outlines your education, relevant projects (link to your git.hub account), and extracurricular activities.

Please apply for a maximum of three internship roles that best match your interests and skil ls.
