Job Description
As a Junior Power Platform Developer at HMCTS you will work with a wide range of stakeholders such as user researchers, product managers, designers, business analysts, delivery managers and digital architects, all of whom share a vision for making better government through smarter use of technology. You will innovate to radically transform public services for the better.
Your role as Junior Power Platform Developer will encompass several key responsibilities listed below (but not limited to):
- Developing, improving and documenting low-code applications and automations using Microsoft Power Platform, following best practice and internal standards
- Continuously learning and staying up to date with Power Platform and related technologies, identifying opportunities, constraints and technical risks
- Ensuring product security, data confidentiality, and integrity, raising risks as needed
- Supporting and maintaining software, including limited out-of-hours work when required
- Learning how to manage service availability effectively and cost-efficiently
- Applying appropriate automated testing, source control and CI/CD practices to low-code and robotic process automation solutions
- Contributing to the technical roadmap and conforming to best practice across the development lifecycle
- Designing and developing software based on user stories
As a Junior Power Platform Developer, you will work with a range of technologies that are central to the development, delivery and support of our digital services, including:
- Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse, for low-code application and workflow development
- UiPath Studio and UiPath Orchestrator for robotic process automation
- Power Platform solutions, environment configuration and application lifecycle management for controlled delivery
- Azure for integrations, supporting platform services and infrastructure
- REST APIs, custom connectors and integration patterns to connect HMCTS services and external systems
- UK Design System for our web interfaces
- Macs to support development, testing and delivery activities
- In addition, we use a range of other technologies and continue to evolve by adopting new tools and technologies that help us deliver better services to our users.

Essential skills
- Experience delivering solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, particularly Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse.
- An understanding of application lifecycle management and DevOps practices for Power Platform, including environments, solutions, source control and CI/CD.
- An understanding of security and governance, data loss prevention policies and data protection.
- Testing and troubleshooting knowledge, with an understanding of when scripting or custom code (e.g. JavaScript, TypeScript or C#) may be required alongside low-code solutions.

This role will be recruited using a combination of the Government Digital and Data (GDD) Profession Capability Framework and the Success Profiles F ramework during the sift and interview process. Using GDD, we will then determine if you will be paid an additional allowance, on top of your basic salary.
This role is within the Software development roles job family and is a Software Developer role at Junior developer level but carries the title Junior Software Developer in DTS.

Salary details
New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.
Existing Civil Servants applying on promotion, will usually be appointed on the salary minimum of the new pay band, or receive an increase of 10 percent on the current base salary, whichever is higher (This is restricted to the pay maximum of the new band).
Travel requirements
You will be required to undertake occasional travel to other HMCTS sites for team meetings and wider business needs.

Working Arrangements & Further Information
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.
Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
For nationally advertised roles: All successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) – See Map . All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity).
For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post.
