About this role
A robot reaches into a furnace of molten aluminum alloy, pulls a sample, and a laser reads what elements are in the metal, while it is still liquid. DTE is a world leader in this area and this now runs around the clock at plants in both Europe and the United States.
You would be the person who builds it, installs it, starts it up, and keeps it running.
This role sits in Iceland, which makes it broader than a field service job alone. Between deployments you work in our own production, assembling and testing the devices you later install — the person who runs the factory acceptance test is often the person who commissions it on site. As our field teams grow abroad, you help train them, and you are who they call when a machine does something nobody expected.
Heat, noise, dust, heavy machinery, and equipment that has to work on the second shift of a Tuesday. If that sounds like the good part of the job, read on.
What you will do
In the field
- Install, commission and service our analysers at customer sites, and train the operators who use them.
- Check site readiness before installation — power, utilities, access, lifting, safety approvals — and flag gaps early.
- Take your turn on the on-call rota for remote and on-site support.
In our production
- Build, assemble and test devices between deployments, and run factory acceptance testing before they ship.
- Work alongside Engineering on prototypes and trials, and feed what you find back into the design.
Across the field organisation
- Train and support our field service specialists abroad, here in Iceland and on site in their regions.
- Be the technical reference point from Iceland when they hit something they cannot solve alone.
- Help build what the field runs on: procedures, checklists, spares lists, troubleshooting guides.
What you bring
- 3+ years in field service, assembly or technical support on electronic or industrial equipment.
- B.Sc. in engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Confidence troubleshooting automated control systems, and the patience to find the real cause.
- Comfort in hot, noisy casthouse environments, in full PPE, handling equipment.
- Excellent English. Icelandic is an advantage, as is any other language.
- Nice to have: metals or foundry experience, electrical certification or sveinspróf, experience training technicians.
Practicalities
Regular work at customer sites in Iceland and roughly [ 30 ]% international travel, supporting deployments abroad and working with our specialists in the United States and Europe. Valid driver’s licence and passport required. Customer sites in heavy industry commonly require safety training, medical or drug screening and background checks.
Why DTE
We are past proving the technology works — systems are in production and we are scaling from single installations to plant-wide deployments. We are solving a blind spot in one of the world’s largest industries: metals producers cannot optimise what they cannot measure in real time. The same data is the foundation for real-time process control, higher recycling rates and lower emissions.
Our values are purpose, excellence and empowerment. We look for people who are driven, resilient, and motivated by building technology with real industrial impact.
We encourage people of all genders to apply. DTE is committed to being an inclusive workplace, where people feel empowered, supported and able to do their best work. We look forward to receiving your application.
The application deadline is the 20th of October 2026
