Senior Cost Accountant
At Okuma America Corporation, the Senior Cost Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and strategic value of our financial operations. This position supports sound business decision-making through cost accounting expertise, financial analysis, reporting, inventory management, and process improvement initiatives. Working cross-functionally with teams across the organization, the Senior Cost Accountant helps drive operational excellence while supporting Okuma's commitment to innovation, quality, and long-term success.

Make an Impact
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
- Coordinate all cost accounting activities and reporting processes.
- Monitor weekly cost calculations and investigate negative inventory issues.
- Perform inventory close activities and reconcile inventory balances across multiple warehouse locations.
- Support cycle count programs, investigate inventory discrepancies, analyze price variances, and assist with issue resolution.
- Establish annual labor and overhead rates.
- Perform average cost analysis for Board and Mechanical Exchange revenue.
- Review, analyze, and explain production variances on a routine basis.
- Conduct quarterly inventory reserve analyses.
- Analyze landed costs and record related accruals.
- Perform royalty analysis and record liabilities within Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and post journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and analysis for management.
- Prepare quarterly and annual consolidation packages for the parent company using Stravis-Link.
- Reconcile machine revenue and cost of goods sold (COGS) accounts.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support business objectives and strategic initiatives.
Fixed Assets & Compliance
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, reconciliations, and depreciation.
- Coordinate internal fixed asset audits and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Reconcile construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts and record depreciation expenses.
- Prepare annual property tax returns.
- Ensure accounting practices comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
Audit & Regulatory Support
- Assist with annual financial statement audits and quarterly reviews.
- Prepare schedules, reports, and supporting documentation for auditors.
- Support required reporting to governmental and regulatory entities in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain strong internal controls and promote compliance across financial processes.
Process Improvement & Business Partnership
- Develop and implement systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information.
- Conduct financial analyses that identify trends, risks, opportunities, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts across accounting processes and workflows.
- Collaborate with operational, manufacturing, and leadership teams to support informed business decisions.
- Provide support to other areas of the Accounting Department as needed.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus in cost accounting and inventory accounting.
- Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience supporting external audits and financial reporting processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments and build productive working relationships.
- CPA or CMA designation is a plus.

Qualifications
Experience/Training/Education
- BS degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 – 7 years of relevant cost accounting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Technical:
• Computer proficiency to include intermediate Microsoft Excel, Word, and Office skills as well as Internet research skills. D365 and Onestream experience is a plus.

Physical and Environmental Elements
Physical Demands:
• Ability to sit continuously for over 3/4 of normal work shift, and stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for at least 1/4 of the normal work shift
• Ability to lift and carry, push, or pull up to 10 pounds
• Ability to stoop, crouch and reach
• Ability to talk or hear continuously
• Ability to see clearly to do all work-related tasks (clear or corrected vision at 20 inches or less)
• Ability to operate a vehicle and possess a valid driver's license
• Finger dexterity is required frequently for over 3/4 of the normal work shift including operating a phone, computer/ electronic equipment
Work Environment:
• Position is typically performed in the office environment with standard equipment and moderate noise levels (examples: computers, printers, fax, copiers, light traffic, and phone)
• Position will occasionally interact with the production/warehouse environment. Thus, the employee may be exposed to an open warehouse area where temperatures may be subject to outdoor conditions in terms of cold and heat.
• There is exposure to various tools and equipment as well as forklift operations and corresponding noise levels

• Maintain annual OSHA safety certifications as required by job duties
