About this role

Based on-site at Manchester CFA, this permanent, full-time role will lead the day-to-day operation of the workshop supporting Manchester City's Grounds and Landscaping team. You will help keep essential machinery safe, reliable and ready to support training, matchday and wider operational requirements. The working pattern is expected to include evening and weekend work.

Who We Are

Manchester City is a football club rooted in East Manchester, with a story that began in 1880 and continues to grow today. Built on resilience, belief and togetherness, success on the pitch is driven by the moments and memories shared with millions of Fans around the world. City is known for its bravery, its determination to the very end and its strong connection to where we come from. With Mancunian roots and a global outlook, we are shaped by our Fans and driven by a long-term vision, from developing future talent to supporting the communities we call home. Together, we are creating the next chapter, the City way.

Within our Grounds and Landscaping team, we help create and maintain the playing surfaces and landscaped environments that support Manchester City's football operations. Working across Facilities, the team combines practical expertise, careful planning and a shared commitment to keeping our sites safe, well-maintained and ready for the moments that matter.

The Role

As Mechanical Workshop Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operation of the Grounds workshop, making sure maintenance, servicing and repair work is planned and completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Your expertise will help keep the equipment and machinery behind our playing surfaces and landscaped environments available, reliable and fit for purpose.

You will plan preventative maintenance, prioritise workshop activity and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults across a varied range of grounds maintenance equipment, machinery and vehicles. You will also coordinate repairs, maintain accurate equipment histories and compliance records, manage stock and spare parts, and raise purchase requests through the agreed procurement processes.

Working closely with the Grounds and Landscaping Lead, Grounds colleagues, Facilities teams, suppliers and external service providers, you will provide clear technical advice and updates on equipment availability and repair priorities. You will support equipment replacement planning, identify practical improvements to workshop operations and help maintain a positive culture of safety, good housekeeping and continuous improvement.

This is an opportunity to help shape a brand-new mechanical workshop at the City Football Academy. Alongside leading the day-to-day workshop operation, you will support the fit-out and development of a safe, efficient facility equipped for the needs of our Grounds operation. Working closely with the Director of Grounds and other colleagues, you will support the procurement and implementation of equipment including ramps, lifts, grinders, specialist tools and extraction systems, bringing your practical mechanical expertise to the successful delivery of the new workshop.
