On behalf of The Ministry of Justice, we are looking for a Software Developer (G7) (Inside IR35) for an initial contract until the end of March 2027 based remotely.
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government’s ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public.
Background:
The Digital Automation Programme has a growing portfolio of automation development initiatives designed to reduce manual effort, improve service delivery, increase productivity, and enable data-driven decision making across the organisation in line with the Governments Digital Objectives .
As a Software Developer, your main responsibilities will be:
- Delivery of approved programme roadmap initiatives and project milestones
- Integration of systems and data sources to improve efficiency, reporting, and user experience.
- Support ongoing maintenance, enhancement, and technical support of existing DAP solutions.
- Reduction of development backlogs and technical debt
Essential:
- Proven experience working as a Software Developer within a complex digital or technology environment.
- Strong experience of designing, developing, testing and maintaining software solutions.
- Experience of integrating systems, applications and data sources, including working with APIs and/or other integration technologies.
- Experience of supporting and enhancing existing or legacy solutions, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Ability to produce clean, maintainable and well-documented code, applying appropriate development standards and best practices.
- Experience of identifying and addressing technical debt, defects and development backlogs.
- Experience working within an Agile delivery environment, contributing to the successful delivery of project milestones and roadmap objectives .
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate technical issues and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Experience of using version control and modern software development practices, including code review, testing and deployment processes.
PLEASE NOTE: SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
