About this role

Key responsibilities:

Implement and monitor project HSE plans, site safety procedures and compliance requirements across data centre construction projects.

Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits and compliance checks to identify and address potential risks.

Identify hazards and assess risks associated with construction, engineering and data centre activities.

Develop and review Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Job Safety Analyses (JSA/JHA) and Permit-to-Work documentation.

Ensure compliance with HSE legislation, client requirements and industry best practices.

Implement and monitor effective control measures to mitigate identified risks.

Investigate incidents, near misses, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, and recommend corrective actions.

Maintain accurate HSE records, inspection reports, incident reports and safety statistics.

Monitor environmental compliance, including waste management, hazardous materials, spill prevention, noise and pollution control.

Data Center-Specific Safety:

Ensure the safe execution of critical data centre construction, MEP, testing and commissioning activities.

Monitor safety procedures relating to electrical works, energisation, commissioning and high-voltage systems.

Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Oversee safety controls for generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, batteries, fuel systems and other critical infrastructure.

Monitor lifting operations involving heavy mechanical and electrical equipment.

Ensure safe working practices for work at height, confined spaces, hot works, excavations and temporary works.

Review safety arrangements where construction and commissioning activities are carried out simultaneously.

Support critical infrastructure change management and shutdown activities from a safety perspective.

Site Monitoring & Compliance:

Conduct daily site walks to identify and address unsafe conditions and behaviours.

Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to close HSE observations and corrective actions.

Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings and HSE briefings.

Verify that personnel have the required training, competency, authorisation and PPE for high-risk activities.

Monitor subcontractor safety performance and compliance with project HSE requirements.

Stop unsafe work where there is an immediate risk to people, equipment or facilities.

Support emergency response activities, drills and preparedness programs.

Reporting & Documentation:

Prepare daily, weekly and monthly HSE reports for project management and client review.

Maintain HSE audit, inspection and compliance documentation.

Track safety observations, incidents, corrective actions and key HSE performance indicators.

Support the preparation of HSE dashboards and project performance reports.

Participate in client, consultant and regulatory HSE audits.

Ensure all HSE records and documentation are organised, accurate and readily available for review.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline preferred.

Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA or equivalent are required or highly desirable.

Additional qualifications in construction safety, fire safety, first aid or environmental management are advantageous.

Minimum 5-8 years of HSE experience within construction, MEP, infrastructure, industrial or mission-critical projects.

Previous experience on data centre projects is highly preferred.

Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical construction safety is essential.

Experience supporting testing, commissioning, energisation and project handover activities is advantageous.

Experience managing subcontractor HSE compliance on large-scale construction projects is preferred.

Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
