Department Description
Join the MPU Systems Engineering team, supporting NXP's industry-leading i.MX applications processors and embedded solutions. This internship offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside world-class engineers on real products used by customers around the globe.
The role is designed as a long-term development program that allows students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world embedded systems while building practical skills in software development, system validation, and customer-focused engineering.
Scope of Responsibilities / Expectations
As a Student Intern, you will work closely with experienced Systems Engineers and Software Engineers on a variety of embedded computing projects.
Embedded Software Development
- Develop and debug embedded software applications on NXP processor platforms.
- Assist in developing proof-of-concept demonstrations, automation tools, and reference applications.
- Support software integration activities involving Linux, Android, RTOS, and middleware components.
- Participate in software testing, debugging, and performance analysis.
System Bring-Up and Validation
- Assist with board bring-up and hardware/software integration activities.
- Execute validation and test procedures on development boards and reference platforms.
- Analyze test results and help investigate software and system-level issues.
- Utilize debugging tools to understand processor, memory, and peripheral behavior.
Innovation and Prototyping
- Contribute to demonstrations showcasing AI, multimedia, connectivity, graphics, and embedded computing technologies.
- Explore emerging technologies and build prototype applications on NXP platforms.
- Participate in feasibility studies and proof-of-concept projects.
Technical Documentation and Collaboration
- Create technical documentation, user guides, tutorials, and application notes.
- Document software, validation results, and development procedures.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams across Europe, North America, and Asia.
- Participate in technical reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and team meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in: Computer Engineering Computer Science Electrical Engineering Electronics Telecommunications Related technical disciplines
- Availability to work part-time while continuing university studies.
- Good programming skills in C/C++.
- Basic understanding of embedded systems and computer architecture.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication skills in English.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and working in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience gained through university projects, personal projects, internships, or extracurricular activities in one or more of the following areas:
- Embedded software development
- Linux application development
- ARM-based processors and microcontrollers
- Python, Bash, or scripting languages
- Git version control
- Device drivers and operating systems
- Communication protocols such as UART, I²C, SPI, USB, CAN, or Ethernet
- AI/ML, computer vision, or multimedia technologies
- Electronics design and hardware debugging
