The Role:

This Techno-Functional role will require the suitable candidate to be well versed with Asset management domain and familiarity with SQL, along with a strong understanding of the front, middle, and back-office operations, investment operations, investment management, and capital markets.

Global Controls Monitoring Team within M&G Plc is a part of COO - Global Controls Team which supports the Asset Management business covering fund/ portfolio onboarding, pre and post trade mandate monitoring, ensuring investment transactions and holdings are compliant with client guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Investment Compliance Coding : Coding involves setting up client & compliance regulations by understanding the client requirements, interpreting the prospectus / investment mandate/ Retail product/ house restrictions and Implement a compliance rule in systems to enable effective monitoring of guidelines.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

·         Conduct reviews and interpretations of client mandates, Investment Management Agreements (IMAs), fund guidelines, and retail product documentation to ensure accurate rule implementation in Aladdin and proprietary systems, addressing client, regulatory, and house restrictions.

·          Subject Matter Expertise & Query Resolution

·         Code investment restrictions, evaluate and test rule evaluation capabilities, including both automated and non-automated monitoring activities, and ensure ongoing system maintenance.

·         Ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of existing rules by analysing regulatory and client guidelines and facilitate the coding of relevant rules within Aladdin's order management system.

·         Annotate Investment Management Agreements for clarity and accuracy.

·         Prepare documentation to support reviews and substantiate effective process controls during the coding of rules in the order management system.

·         Address client-specific requirements to deliver tailored solutions that meet unique objectives.

·         Serve as a change agent by providing technical expertise for key compliance reporting projects, offering insights into rule coding, and identifying breaches.

·         Collaborate with BlackRock Solutions to resolve Aladdin system issues and manage requirements, including maintaining the coding approvers table.

·         Support fund managers by responding to queries related to pre- and post-trade rules and exceptions.

·         Must understand ESG guidelines and frameworks.

·         Partner with various operations teams to enhance data availability and improve the quality of underlying data.

·         Act as a change agent and provide technical expertise to key projects/initiatives in the compliance reporting function.

·         Able to provide a four-eye check of the rule coded, whether it is working properly and resultant breaches if any.

·         Providing innovative solutions to client requirements (including coding the Compliance Reporting application) in sync with optimization of the rule library in place.

·         Can appreciate specific client nuances successfully and provide an appropriate & optimal solution to meet objectives.

·         Maintaining existing fund "rules" within the system and tailoring available solutions to the changing needs of the client in a timely manner.

·         Scope client requirements against that of the system and perform maintenance to the client's account.

·         Investigate investment guideline breaches with the investment manager to assist the client in the breach resolution process.

·         Keep up to date with industry practice, product development and evolving regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Educational Qualification

Knowledge & Skills (Must Have) :

Domain Expertise:

- Coding experience, ideally with logic-based database systems
- Through understanding of Investment Business is mandatory
- Excellent financial market and instrument knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem solving skills
- Experience using BlackRock Aladdin is a significant plus

Technical Expertise:

- Relevant technical certification on SQL and VBA Script language
- Through understanding of Bloomberg/ Reuters application usage
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc) skills
- Microsoft Power BI Apps

Magnitude of Impact:

- End to end ownership of the processes and issue resolution
- Ability to interact with Fund Managers on potential investment breaches
- Strong understanding of various asset classes to explain the Client Directors on potential impact of the breach on fund/ portfolio/ client investments

Knowledge & Skills (Additional) :

- Knowledge of security classification data, experience using Bloomberg, Reuters etc.
- Understanding of UK and European regulatory frameworks that impact investment guideline monitoring and UCITS/AIFM/NURS/COLL rules
- Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills
- Ability to operate remotely, in a diverse and multi-cultural environment with international work or consultancy exposure
- Curious and continually looking to seek out improvements and not just accepting the status quo

Experience:

- Working experience of 7+ years in a BUY side Asset Management company
- Experience in investment / Mandate / portfolio compliance monitoring within BUY side firms
- Experience of using investment guideline monitoring systems for pre and post-trade monitoring, escalation of investment guideline breaches and commenting on guideline violation reasons within the compliance monitoring system.
- Understanding and strong interpretation of Fund prospectus and IMA documentation
- Excellent partnership and stakeholder management skills as well as build strong relationships and work collaboratively with teams across the business
- Experience of liaising, influencing and negotiating effectively with all internal and external parties and stakeholders

Educational Qualification:

- Master’s Degree level in Finance/ Mathematics/ Economics
- CFA Qualification will be an added advantage
- FRM Certification will be desirable
- Relevant IOC or Investment Management qualification / Certification would be desirable.
- Technical certifications like SQL and VBA
